Once the Green Ronin site goes back up, I will be posting a 5th level Wizard and a couple of his spell effects. Should be fun, so drop by. ;)

Yuan-Ti--

Quick question while I am waiting for my copy to arrive.

Let's say a spell has 1d8 drain and you have spell energy of 6.

Does spell energy work like a threshold-- where, for example, you ignore any roll on that 1d8 that is 6 or less, no matter how many spells you cast?

Does your spell energy only go down if you spend additional spell energy for that +10 bonus?

So you cast a spell, one you really need to work, for a +10 bonus. Now your drain goes up to 2d8 (or so) and your spell energy has dropped to 5. Which means you ignore anything on the 2d8 that is 5 or less, but anything over that will be applied as damage, right?

Spell Energy works like a threshold, or a specialized damage reduction, except that it cannot reduce drain lower than 1. In the first example you cited, you would take between 1-2 points of drain (1d8-6), while in the second, you would take anywhere between 1-11 points of drain (2d8-5). With higher magnitudes, you can spend more spell energy for the super-duper effects, but at greater risk to yourself. For example, a First Magnitude wizard could spend two points of spell energy, for 3d8 drain, but gaining a +20 to the roll.

Nice mechanics.

Consider them yoinked!

I am eagerly looking forward to the spell talents themselves-- did Steve Kenson help with these? They seem very similar to what came before in The Psychic's Handbook.
