Black Industries to produce DC Heroes RPG

Hmmm. This will be at least the 3rd DC superhero RPG, too. There was one from Mayfair that had a ton of supplements (and is actually still going, though w/o the license) and then one from WEG (using the D6 system)

Well, unlike most other gaming companies, Games Workshop has the means to support a really agressive production schedule - not to mention the ability to pay for top talent - so I suspect that it will be a hit.

Black Industries (with green ronin) produced the truly outstanding Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2nd edition. It's got my favourite MM style book of all time to boot.

That said, Superheros does seem a little overdone. But not nearly as overdone as tolkien-eque fantasy.

I think there are lots of people with a bad taste in their mouths over DC RPGs. I love the DC universe but every supers game they have put out has been kind of lame. Besides, currently Mutants & Masterminds is really the best system on the market.

I'm a little surprised that there are so many supers RPG's instead of settings and supplements lisenced for use with existing systems. Sure people will buy a Marvel or DC-based RPG, but look at the current trends: The new Marvel game has pretty much died out while M&M and Hero keep going strong. Creating a whole new system instead of a current and well-supported ruleset just seems like a waste of time to me.

It's success will depend on the game engine. I suspect it will use something very similiar to what is seen in the new Warhammer RPG. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing it. Maybe it will help generate some more interest in playing RPGs from the comic book collectors that come into the store.

I'm interested in how they would make that work (using the WHFRP system for Supers), but I still think that if GR is doing it, they would be better served by using M&M. As for interest among comic collectors, M&M has generated some RPG sales from comic collectors in my area. I'll admit, most of the sales came from simple curiosity and only a handful actually play, but I have seen some new players in the FLGS thanks to M&M.

The thing is, we don't know if GR is doing it. It would be logical to use M&M if they were doing it. But for right now, all we know is that Black Industries has secured the rights to do a DC Heroes RPG.

That's true. I can't see BI doing it themselves and GW would likely not be doing the rules either due to the company's hatred of RPG's. GR would be the likely choice.
