Okay i know this isn't going to be a popular answer, but... You might think about watching pawn stars every once in a while. People are constantly bringing in old guns from the medieval period, and it can give all kinds of ideas.

I'll do some research and get back to you with some weapon ideas.

blunderbuss, eh? sure, i'll give it a whirl:

i'd probably say it'd have the measurements of a light crossbow, except be an exotic weapon and you'd need to use a full-round action to load it, considering you're actually getting powder out, and then tamping down the shot-pellets. when fired, it shoots a 30' cone: anyone within the first 15' takes 2d6 piercing, reflex for half?

i know it may seem weak, but considering that 2d6 is enough to completely murder most 1st level thugs, they'll steer clear of it. also, it wasn't known for accuracy, and was prized for it's ability to hit a wide swath in front of the bearer.

also, if you want it to be realistic, you could say that on a natural 1, the powder mis-fires and a half-powered shot goes off directly on top of the bearer, basically 1d6, or 1d3 on a save; maybe also doing a straight 1d6 to the gun itself?

how would pawn stars be an unpopular answer? I enjoy it

and Im mainly after rules for the blunderbuss, like the spread effect

Well you'd be surprised how many people think they're a bunch of cheap con men. Just for the record, one of them gave a women 15G for a piece of jewelery, when she asked for 2Gs.

And for the spread affect, might i suggest something like a cone of cold or something?

Sorcery and steam from the legends and lairs d20 series. Fantasy flight games is the publisher. There is a fourteen page section on black powder weapons rules you might be looking for. It describes an assortment of guns and cannon. There is also a base class that is focused on using these weapons. There are other classes which use them but not exclusively.

I have a steam punk type of game world and these rules help a lot.

The cone effect is a good idea, but 30 feet is a bit much, maybe 20 feet
and what I would do is add a new weapon type (Simple, Martial, Exotic, and Firearms)
but instead of needing a feet for each, you just take "Firearm proficeny" and can use them all
rapid reload would work for firearms aswell

I use the critical fumble deck, but since firearms are different than most weapons, I can add 52 possibilites (this is gonna be ALOT of thinking)

and damage?
probably more than 2d6 or 3d6
possibly 2d12
sounds like alot, I know, but firearms are more deadly than crossbows and arrows (if you have the great crossbow option, it does a d12, you need to be more powerful than that)

and maybe 2 firing types?

one with a cone (20ft cone, reflex = your normal attack, that way it doesnt become inferior at high levels)

and one that shoots multiple shots, each with an attack, but each attack must be within a 20ft cone (do you want to slaughter a group or slaughter a specific group?)

and you cannot make a firearm magical, only parts (a firing pin of speed, a bayonet of defense, +1 slugs, ect. ect.) because nothing would be as powerful as a +5 keen, flaming, speed musket, it just wouldnt be fair!)

so yeah...you like?
