So has anyone seen Black Razor (intelligence soul devouring two handed sword from White Plume Mountain & Return to White Plume Mountain) in 3rd ed yet?

There is a sword in the ELH that is close to it called "Souldrinker." Souldrinker (page 134 in the ELH) is a +5 bastard sword and bestows 2d4 negative levels on its target whenever it deals damage.

You gain temp hp when it deals negative levels.

Here is Blackrazor from the S2 conversion by Keith Martin (from the conversion library)

"Blackrazor. CN +3 Bastard Sword of Life Stealing, AC -, Hardness 15, Hit Points 18; Intelligence: 17, Charisma: 16, Wisdom: 12, Ego: 21

Blackrazor can communicate via Speech and telepathy, and speaks Common, plus up to 3 more spoken by its current wielder, which the sword learns telepathically

Minor Powers: Haste, 10/rounds, wielder only, 1/day
Detect Living Creatures (Souls) 60' radius, at will
SR 30 against Sleep and Charm effects

Life Stealing: On a critical hit, Blackrazor bestows one negative level on the target and the swords wielder gains 1d6 temporary hit points. These points last for 24 hours.

Special Purpose: Slay All

Special Power: On a killing blow, the Sword's wielder gains a number of d6 temporary hit points equal to the victim's hit dice; these temporary hit points stack with those gained via the swords Life Stealing ability, if any, and last for 1 minute per hit die of the slain victim. This power functions only if Blackrazor strikes the killing blow.

However, if the sword so much as strikes an Undead or other Negative Energy creature, it works in reverse, bestowing one negative level on the sword's wielder and granting 1d6 temporary hit points to the undead struck. 24 hours later, the wielder must make a Will save against a DC equal to Blackrazor's current ego or the level loss becomes permanent. This will happen every time Blackrazor strikes an undead or other negative-plane creature. Note that Blackrazor exists only to feed on the souls of the living; it cares little where those souls come from and may well keep this little fact to itself.

For every three days that pass without Blackrazor striking a killing blow or scoring a critical hit in combat, the sword's ego increases by 1 until it can compel its wielder to seek out and slay a human or humanoid creature. Once the sword has been "fed" in this manner its Ego drops back to 21. Although the sword seeks to slay all living things it encounters, it is intelligent and cunning enough to realize that its current wielder will need help to escape from White Plume Mountain, and it will not make an effort to force her to kill the other party members. Once Blackrazor realizes that the party intend to return it to Greyhawk, however, it will become increasingly difficult to deal with, and will constantly make all sorts of outlandish promises to whoever is bearing it, in an attempt to avoid being returned to the vault of its true owner.

Caster Level: 18th, Market Price: 105,000 GP; Blackrazor is a Minor Artifact."

That sounds like a pretty good conversion for Blackrazor, avoiding all that "positive level" nonesense that made the sword such a monster before. For instance, a 9th level fighter with the "old" Blackrazor walked into the main hill giant encounter in Against the Giants, and walked out a 127th level fighter (THACO below -100, over 1000 hp). Granted it only lasted a couple of hours, but it's pretty bad when one guy can solo a Giants module because of that one sword!

The over-1000 hp thing still seems possible, but at least we won't have a fighter arguing that he should be getting 7 bonus feats (possibly epic ones) for each 3e hill giant he slays.

The only thing I would do differently is have it grant 5 hp of temporary hp to the wielder on a crit (just like an undead draining energy). Upon slaying a living creature grant 1 hp of healing per HD of the creature to the wielder and 5 temporary hitpoints at most. Yes...it is a minor artifact and all, but 1d6 temp hitpoints per HD of a slain creature seems a bit much. You could even say the wielder should have to make a Will save vs. the sword's ego to get the hitpoints (in order to force it to "share" then energy of the dying creature).

Souldrinker (from the ELH) deals 2d4 negative levels each time it hits AND grants 5 temp hp for each negative level dealt. If enough negative levels are dealt to slay the target, the wielder gains 10 more temp hp. Temp hp last 1 hour.

Slight variation of Blackrazor perhaps and it isnt even an artifact in the book (though if I ever use it, I believe I will Rule 0 it and make it an artifact [minor]).

In my own campaign, I found that undead, golems, constructs, long distance attacks, traps, and other work arounds. Now granted, this only happened when the NPCs new who was coming. After a few encounters where the user didn't use the sword for a while and the Ego built up and took over, everyone know who had the sword.

Nice conversion. I wish Dragonlords had taken a similar track with Stormbringer.

I thought that Stormbringer was a terrible version this time. I'm found of the old one in the original Deities & Demigods. While powerful, it did have limits.

I may be mistaken but I think that the Stormbringer conversion was a near complete one from Elric.
