Blade of Blood - ouch ouch ouch!

Blade of Blood
Asn 1, Clc 1, Sor/Wiz 1, Dusk 1, Blackguard 1
1 swift action
1 rnd/level

Weapon deals +1d6 damage or +3d6 damage if the caster takes 5 points of damage as part of the casting.

Two questions/observations -

Dramatic power increase from other similar spells (there's one in Eberron that does +1d6 damage for all attacks in a round). Of course, compared to the game-stopping Rhino's Rush, this is small potatoes. Overpowered?

Does the 5 point hit only happen once? Could I cast it, take 5 damage, and then proceed to cleave my way through an encounter for 10 rounds at +3d6 damage per round?

Where´s that spell from?

It DOES seem overpowered...

Flame of Faith, a 3rd level spell from Complete Divine, grants you +1d6 fire damage for 1 round per level (and makes your weapon magic +1)

PHBII

Swift action spell, mind you. Under RAW, you could charge using Rhino's Rush, do double damage, then cast Blade of Blood and unleash a full attack - round after round - for +3d6 untyped damage.

Eesh.

Duration: 1rd/level or until discharged. ...The next time this weapon strikes a living creature, blade of blood discharges...

It is only good for one (successful) attack. Not at all broken.

Not that the spell is weak or anything, but I'm reading the part of the spell where it says "the next time this weapon strikes a living creature, blade of blood discharges" to mean that you only get the damage on one attack.

Oops, on preview, I'm a little late with that point, but I'd like to say that I agree with it.
