Was that Randy Quaid?

yep it was, and his character mentioned a certain Marc Spector when Krista asked if werewolves were real. could that be a reference to marvel's werewolf by night where marc spector/moon knight fights the werewolf?

overall i thought the show wasn't good but wasn't terrible either it certainly weighs in more on the bad side of the column then good, but just because they mentioned my boy moon knight i'll give it another couple of episodes to see if it gets any better.

I found it thoroughly lacking in self-awareness. I don't think you have to be a hardcore fanboy to grasp the premise of vampires living in a modern world. Yet for two hours we're taken around the bends very very slowly.

The whole scene where one character starts going "Omigod that was a vampire!!! This can't happening!!!" is tired as hell. The purpose of inserting such a character is that it provides a convenient vehicle for exposition, where the viewers learn along with them. However, in this case the viewer already knows the score and has to wait on the character to catch up before we can make progress. And that's damn boring.

The choice of actors for Blade is perplexing. He so distinctly un-Bladelike in appearance that he's forced to wear his shades cosntantly, even at night, or else people would tune in and wonder "Where's Blade? And who's the dork with shaved head?"

On the upside, the lead actress is hot, and they certainly attired her properly throughout the episode.

Unfortunately, I suspect this show will just go through the motions without delivering any real surprises. I was especially distressed when Blade tells Krista that her brother was "a good man". The Blade from the movies wouldn't say something like that.

EDIT--Btw, note that the bad guys belong to the House of Chthon. In Marvel Comics, Chthon is one of the elder gods who roamed the earth before the dawn of man. He wrote the Darkhold, the book that's responsible for creating vampires.

I thought that the acting was awful, awful, awful, the dialogue wooden, and the action sequences lame. But...I thought that the villian, Marcus?, was great, and there was some sexual tension between him and the hot girl.

I was remarkably unimpressed. I enjoyed Blade and Blade II and I won't talk about this rumored Blade Trinity. This though left me wanting something different. I don't mind the actor who plays Blade but was unimpressed with the dirrection they are taking it. At first I thought Blade would rescue Krista and cure her and they would work together, but no they go and make her a vamp. I too was looking for something more Supernatural (the series) rather than the story of a conflicted vampire (that wan't Blade). I will watch one more episode and see if they will make it more about Blade and less about Krista. Sadlly I ended up liking the blond vampire the most and was rooting for her to kill Krista and report her boss to his superiors. I am also at a loss about the whole vaccine plot. It seems to me that they ended the pilot not with a cliffhanger or even a minor victory for Blade but with a massively clearcut and giant giant victory for the vampires. They now have a working anti-weakness agent and large abounts of it as well. I am slightly curious what is stopping them from vacinating an army of vampires.

Now if they would just stake Krista and make the show about Blade I might just watch. If this is supposed to help Spike be "Man" TV then a show about a conflicted woman is not going to help them with thier target demographics.

It will if they keep up the way they're dressing her.

I didn't like it.

The vampires and their agents are so powerful and spread through the government and police...and they can't afford good body armor and automatic rifles for their gas-masked, tactical suited minions?

The soldier, like someone else said, monologues herself into getting captured and turned...

I dislike the whole "bells and whistles" approach of their anti-vampire weapons, the flashy muscle car AND motorcycle...

Sunlight-vulnerable vampires who are stronger, tougher, and faster than humans...seen it. Not interested. I'd like to see more of their culture, though.

Sure, but that is what the internet is for. A hot babe in skimpy clothes only goes so far, especially if I have to deal with her emotional angst. I want vampire killing action!

The pilot was apparently their highest rated show ever - it will be interesting to see how much (if any) it changes.

To me, the first 10 minutes of the original movie really set in my mind what Blade should be about. In that he kills 23 (or so) vampires to the sound of Pump Panel's remix of Confusion (which was actually mostly their own song "Ego Acid" with only a few bits of Confusion in it). Both lots of action and really really cool (in fact, that set up a minor musical trance trend, with a lot of songs copying that style of bass)

Instead, well, after tonight's episode, it's almost 60s Batman style camp. Batman meets Dark Shadows with all the fight coreography of a Wrestling match (notice how his fight against the bald guy was basically in a steel cage? Coincidence? No, they are going after wrestling fans, I think).

Caught the last bit of ep. 2 last night.

Now, I', ticked off that I'm going to have to watch it.

My wife loved it.

She loves cheesy horror flicks.

And (her words). "This is one of the worst, cheesiest series I've ever seen!).

Note to Blade Wanna-be.

Your Wesley Snipes imitation sucks.

If it sets off my wife's cheese-o-meter & clocks it far into the red, it's gotta be bad.

Stinky French Goat Cheese bad.
