Wrestling --- maybe with notes on Greco-Roman v. modern v. WWE v. Mexican

Pankretion...or however it's spelled...y'know, the Greek thing

Brazilian jujitsu [and/or "modern submission fighting" in general

Pankration (Mu Tau Pankration): Good suggestion. I thought it was on the list of styles from the other thread so I didn't include it with my suggestions.

Wrestling was also a good suggestion. My suggestion would be to seperate Greco Roman (and the one's I listed below) from WWE and Mexican which is "rasslin'"--wrestling that is modified/choreographed for performance. I remember an article (I think by Gene Lebell) that showed how many of the holds we see on tv were modified to be the point they are less effective or ineffective and could be more easily escaped/reversed by a judoka or traditionally trained wrestler.
Anyway, here are some other wrestling styles.
Cireum (Korean Wrestling)
Dumog (Filipino Wrestling):
Sambo (Russian Wrestling)
Shuai chiao (Chinese Wrestling)

Which, I imagine, would be real close to Shaolin and Kung Fu.

Here's an idea for a feat, Vig --- a reversed version of Power Attack. You can add points to your attack bonus and subtract them from your damage [or maybe just a flat +2/-2]. This would cover guys who do modern non-Hanmei martial arts tournaments, where you are scored based on hits, not damage, and intentionally avoid striking with maximum force.

Shootfighting? It's jujitsu plus Thai kickboxing.

Some more ideas about combining styles would be interesting. Maybe a feat that allows a character to create his/her own style?

Prereqs could include proficiency in at least two styles...the player can define the basics of the new style [Str or Dex? What prereqs? etc.], and from then on, provided he can find a teacher, he can learn any technique and add it to the style...plus he can make other feats and techniques he's used part of the new style.

And then, once he hits 20th level, he can retire, open up a dojo, and become the revered founder of his own warrior dynasty.

I call dibs on sumo-capoeira.

Good ideas guys :)

Wu Shu was on my original list actually, but my research showed it to be closer to Tai Chi and more exercise than martial art.

However, not *everyone* thinks that, and so for a game there's no reason not to include it as well :)

Regarding Tai Chi, if I recall correctly there are four major styles (I think they are Wu, Chen, Yang, and Sun) and not all of them are primarily excercise. After my illustration class today (I have no idea why it was scheduled for Saturday), I will check what is left of my martial arts library and see what I can find.

Gun Fu?

I wouldn't mind other ideas like the Hanmei, perhaps touching a bit into Wuxia or Chanbara style campaigns?

Gun Fu/Wire Fu is a definite possibility- I had intended to increase the Ki feat selection anyway.

Would you guys prefer I handle WireFu under Ki and Signature maneuvers(like I did with the Wuxia feat), or would you just prefer this one to be a little more wide open?

Let me expand on my previous comment a bit. If it is too far over the top, too much like a wuxia film, I'd never get to play using it. Too many of the folks I game with are into low FX modern games.

As far as availability to characters, I would like to see a combination of general, maneuver, ki and signature feats.

That's cool- I currently run a *no* FX special ops game and a supers game where, of course, almost everything goes- so you have no fear about a whole book of wuxia :)

I was mostly asking because I realize not everyone prefers their modern FX-lite like me.
