[Blood and Guts] Help me assemble a Special Forces team

JPL

Anyone interested in a little collaborative PC generation?

Howzabout brainstorming a Special Forces A-Team for Blood & Guts?

Full stats would be great, but even just some little G.I. Joe filecard biographies would be cool, too. Interesting backgrounds and diverse skills are a plus. No ninjas. Well, okay, maybe just one ninja.

A-Teams are also trained to operate as two 6-man teams, which is more manageable as a PC group...with a whole A-team statted, you could pick the guys you want for each mission.

Here’s how the team breaks down, with some preliminary thoughts about translating to d20 Modern:

DETACHMENT COMMANDER
Rank: 0-3, Captain
First In Command. The Detachment Commander is responsible for ensuring and maintaining the operational readiness and all other aspects of the A-Team. He may command or advise an indigenous combat force up to battalion size.
[Might use the Field Officer class from d20 Future. I’m thinking about figuring out a Special Forces Officer class, too. Maybe about 10-12 level.]

DETACHMENT TECHNICIAN
Rank: W0-1 & up
He commands in the absence of the detachment commander; serves as technical and tactical authority in all aspects of Special Forces operations; supervises all staff activities; is the psychological operations (PSYOPs) and Civil Affairs authority; has cultural, regional, and linguistic abilities; manages the mid-term and long-term planning. He can recruit, organize, train, and supervise indigenous combat forces up to battalion size.

[Probably a senior NCO who became a warrant officer...maybe he could have a few levels in one of the other Special Forces classes, plus a level of this Special Forces Officer class I’ve proposed. Higher level — 14 or so.]

SPECIAL FORCES OPERATIONS SERGEANT
Team Sergeant (Rank: E-8, Master Sergeant)
The Team Sergeant is the senior enlisted man on the Team. He is responsible for overseeing all Team operations and managing all enlisted personnel on the Team. Sometimes known as the "Team Daddy", he is usually the person who actually runs the Team. He can recruit, organize, train, and supervise indigenous combat forces up to battalion size.

[Needs to cover all the MOS’s...maybe give him levels in two different Special Forces classes, and use the cross-training class ability to cover all the bases? Another experienced vet — 14th level or so.]

ASSISTANT OPERATIONS SERGEANT
O&I Sergeant (Rank: E-7, Sergeant First Class)
Assists the Team Sergeant in operating the Team. Plans, coordinates, and directs the A-Team's intelligence, collection, analysis, production and dissemination. He field interrogates and processes enemy prisoners of war. He briefs and debriefs friendly patrols. He can train, advise, or lead indigenous combat forces up to company size.

[Levels in Negotiator or Investigator might be useful. 12th level or so.]

SPECIAL FORCES WEAPONS SERGEANT
(2 per "A Team")
Weapons Sergeant (Rank: E-7, Sergeant First Class)
Asst. Weapons Sergeant (Rank: E-6, Staff Sergeant)
The weapons experts. Capable of firing and employing nearly every small arm and crew served weapon in the world; such as pistols, rifles, machine guns, mortars, anti-tank guns, and grenade launchers. They also train detachment members and indigenous combat forces in the use of these weapons. The two weapons sergeants employ conventional and unconventional tactics and techniques as tactical mission leaders. They are responsible for the tactical security of the A-Team. Each can train, advise, or lead indigenous combat forces up to company size.

[Some pretty steep BAB requirements limit the multiclassing options somewhat...it would be nice to have both a sniper and a heavy weapons expert on the team. Maybe 12th and 9th level, respectively?]

SPECIAL FORCES ENGINEER SERGEANT
(2 per "A Team)
Engineer Sergeant (Rank: E-7, Sergeant First Class)
Asst. Engineer Sergeant (Rank: E-6, Staff Sergeant)
The demolitions experts. He can build as well as destroy almost any structure. The SF "Demo Man" is capable of constructing everything from an outhouse to a schoolhouse. A key player in any civic action mission. Each can train, advise, or lead indigenous combat forces up to company size.

[The Techie or Engineer classes might be useful. Maybe one guy could primarily be a mechanic/driver, and the other a demolitions expert? Again, 12th and 9th level.]

SPECIAL FORCES MEDICAL SERGEANT
(2 per "A Team")
Medical Sergeant (Rank: E-7, Sergeant First Class)
Asst. Medical Sergeant (Rank: E-6, Staff Sergeant)
The life-saver. Not your average "medic". The SF medic employs the latest in field medical technology and limited surgical procedures. He is capable of managing any battlefield trauma injury, as well as administering preventative medicine. The SF Medic is in an integral part of civic action programs in bringing medical treatment to native populations. SF medics also become "paramedics" upon completion of their SF medical training. Their capabilities include: Advanced Trauma Life Support, limited surgery, dentistry, and even veterinarian procedures. Each can train, advise, or lead indigenous combat forces up to company size.

[A few levels of Field Medic would obviously be appropriate. Maybe one of these guys is also a recon/survival expert? 12th and 9th.]

SPECIAL FORCES COMMUNICATIONS SERGEANT
(2 per "A Team")
Communications Sergeant (Rank: E-7, Sergeant First Class)
Asst. Communications Sergeant (Rank: E-6, Staff Sergeant)
The "Commo Guy" - The lifeline. His responsibility is to establish and maintain communications. He employs the latest FM, multi-channel, and satellite communications devices (he also carries the heaviest rucksack on the Team). The SF Commo sergeant is an invaluable and vital part of all SF missions. Each can train, advise, or lead indigenous combat forces up to company size.

[Again, a few levels of Techie or Engineer might work. Either of these guys might have an unusual secondary specialty, just to keep things interesting. 9th and 12th.]

I should note that there's a longstanding exchange program between the Green Berets and the British SAS. I think they swap members with the SEALs, too. So if you have an idea for a SEAL or SAS op, just give him one level of an appropriate Special Forces class and welcome him to the Green Berets. Or the reverse --- a SF op with level or two of SEAL or SAS.

Master Sergeant Jacob Reissman [Team Sergeant]

Strong Hero 2 / Tough Hero 2 / Solider 3 / Special Forces Demolitions Sergeant 4 / Special Forces Weapons Sergeant 3

Background: A native of Brooklyn, Reissman enlisted on his eighteenth birthday, and served a tour in Vietnam near the end of the war. An active Green Beret since the late 1970s. Just turned fifty and became a grandpa. Quick to remind folks that he’s too old for this crap, but doesn’t seem too eager to retire. Down to one cigar a day. Prefers an old-fashioned M16 over all of this fancy crap the kids like to carry. Fluent in Vietnamese and Thai, and can fake it in a couple of other languages.

Notes: The grizzled old solider / mentor. Looks like Ron Perlman circa Aliens: Resurrection --- big and ugly and scarred. Since he's qualified in all the Special Forces MOS's, he's a good addition to any team.

Man this looks great JPL.

As I am writing a BNG adventure even as we speak, this has my full attention :)

Chuck

Well, jump right in, Chuck, if you have a notion. I just wish I had a little more time to stat these guys out.

Better get that ninja out of my system...

Sergeant First Class Michael Hiroshi Washington [Weapons Sergeant]

Strong Hero 2 / Fast Hero 2 / Ninjitsu Master 6 / Special Forces Weapons Sergeant 2

Background: Son of an African-American career noncom and his Japanese wife, Washington grew up on a military base in Okinawa. Early in life, he began a study of the martial arts under his eccentric uncle, the only member of his mother's family to truly accept the "half-breed" child. Washington enlisted, and his language skills and exceptional close-combat prowess made him a natural for the Special Forces. Before his current assignment, he taught unarmed combat at the JFK Special Warfare Center.

Notes: The living weapon. Looks like Christopher Judge of Stargate/S.G.1. Quiet, mysterious. Doesn't advertise the fact that he practices ninjitsu --- usually says that it's a "family style" and then changes the subject. Slow to anger...but entirely capable of killing a man without getting angry. A true master of the silent kill. Good for missions involving close-quarters combat.

I don't have B&G in front of me, so I hope the math works out on this guy...

Chief Warrant Officer William MacAllister [Detachment Technician]

Strong Hero 3 / Smart Hero 3 / Tactician 4 / Special Forces Intelligence Sergeant 2 / Special Forces Officer 2

Background: Spec Ops has no shortage of smart guys, but they don’t get any smarter than Mac. A native of Virginia. Captain of the high school chess team. Started out in intelligence before transferring to Special Forces. Involved in a number of still-classified surgical strikes during Desert Storm. Went on reserve status for a couple of years to earn a master’s degree in military history at Yale, then returned to active duty. Author of three books on guerilla warfare, one of which has become the standard text at West Point.

Notes: The man with the plan — always three steps ahead of everyone else. Looks like Robert Patrick — about forty, lean and intense. Has the Plan and Savant [K: Tactics] class features, naturally. Quotes Sun Tzu, Napoleon, and Hannibal Smith. No patience for armchair generals and REFMs who confuse theory with real life. Could’ve been a general or a tenured professor by now...but prefers the challenges and rewards of field ops. Works as a team leader, or as an NPC to provide intelligence briefings and strategic support.

Ok I'll bite :)

Harold "Ghost" Holahta

Strong Hero 3/Fast Hero 3/Soldier 3/Sniper 3

A Choctaw Indian from Oklahoma, Harold grew up hunting and fishing, being with the land in a way not too different from his ancestors. But times were tough and Harold saw few opportunities in Oklahoma for a kid with a High School Diploma and not much else.

During Basic Harold did well enough on his marksmanship tests to earn a transfer to the sniper school at Fort Benning. Now he serves as the eyes and ears of his team, providing them with advance reconnaissance and the ability to selectively remove threats from a great distance.

According to Choctaw tradition, where warriors added new names throughout their life, Harold has given himself the name Ghost to go with Holahta, which means "leader" in his native tongue. While his teammates call him Ghost like any other nickname Harold knows the truth, he is not a ghost but a ghost leader, one who leads the spirits of trouble away from his team and to the door of his enemy.

John Finnerman

Charismatic 2 / Dedicated 3 / Field Medic 4

Growing up in the wilds of Montana, Johnny learned a few things about survival, both with the elements and with people. A native of a rough-edged logging town, he picked up extra bucks acting as a guide for loggers and instructor for tourists, while learning the finer skills of getting those people to hear his point of view with a smile and a well-placed word instead of fists and feet. Dealing with inevitable accidents of those trades, he found a natural affinity for applying his innate, unshakable faith in himself towards those in dire need of assistance miles away from anything resembling a hospital.

Now his adventursome spirit has led him down the road of the military, where he not only saves lives but finds great pleasure working with indigenous peoples, whether it be in the role of healer, advisor, or trainer. The kind of guy who can smile and joke with an Afghan tribal leader and hold his respect while also holding his femural artery in his hand, never once letting the thought of failure even enter his mind.

Good bio. Let's see...why not tack on about three levels of Special Forces Medical Sergeant and make him the senior medical sergeant?
