Blood & Fists: Cool!

As long as you are here Chuck, can you clear something up for me?

How is block supposed to work. Normally people don't attack you on your turn, so how do you give up attacks to block? Do you "reserve" attacks to use against any attacks coming in at you during the round, or do you use them as needed and then lose them on your next turn?

Always happy to help :)

I allow my players to decide what attacks will be used for blocking and attacking when they make a full attack. However, I consider this in the area of a house rule.

Alternately, you could have a character delay his initiative till after his opponent's. That might be the method best grounded in the rules.

The blocking rules assume that characters are not making a full attack, then receiving a full attack from their opponent. I feel that actions are going on simultaneously, and the initiative order is just a way to keep things organized.

BTW- my players also make extensive use of the Sense Motive skill to get a general sense of what their opponent is going to do.

Man- this is all good stuff.

I especially like the Victorian-Hanmei idea, sounds like a cross between Blood and Fists and LXG :)

Thanks for the info on Hwarang Do and the Flying Guillotine Greg :)

I wanted to run that "Street Fighter 1890" back at Christmas time, but there just weren't enough martial arts options in d20 Modern to make me happy. I was inspired in part by Conan O'Brien's SNL skit about the trash-talking old-time Irish boxer ["I'll pepper your porridge!"]

I'm a sucker for period pieces. I think it would also be a blast to run a 70s kung fu-blaxploitation game as a one-shot.

I love the 70's martial arts as well. Probably a bigger influence on BNF than any movie would be the 70's marvel comics, Master of Kung Fu, Sons of the Tiger, Iron Fist, Daughters of the Dragon.

I love that stuff :)

Ahhh... the memories. ;)

BTW, just exactly were you apologizing for referring to Enter the Dragon in the book? Anyone who doesn't think that movie is a classic may as well put the book down.

"My style, you can call the art of fighting without fighting."

"You have offended my family and you have offended the Shaolin Temple."

Han: "We are all ready to win, just as we are born knowing only life. It is defeat that you must learn to prepare for."
Williams: "Don't waste my time with it. When it comes, I won't even notice."
Han: "Oh? How so?"
Williams: "I'll be too busy looking gooood. "

Gotta love it. ;)

I think the apology was for including it as an example of every single martial arts genre... I set my own fanboy detector off at some point :)

That's why I recall apologizing at any rate lol.

Damn American Movie Classics...I think I watched that movie three times last month...and it just gets better every time.

I have ETD, Chinese Connection, Fists of Fury and Drunken Master II on DVD and watched them endlessly while writing BNF. I must admit that despite the horrible dub-job that Chinese Connection is my favorite Lee film- some fantastic fight scenes.

No problem. I love the Martial Arts although the last several years I have been relegated to the capacity of an arm chair historian. I just wish that I had the extra funds to pick up a copy of Blood and Fist. However, if an upcoming portflio review goes well and I start picking up some freelance work, Blood and Fist right with Spycraft will be at the top of my must buy list.
