Ok heres the premise of the game world, its old I created it back whenthe terminator and aliens movies were the rage.
"The year is around 2050, space travel has become somewhat common with colonies on several of the more hospitable planets, once they were reconditioned." Cloning has made advances and robots or combat droids are now being used in the armed forces. Man has become very dependent on machines.
A terrorist faction mixed with a group of snubbed scientists create a super-virus, a weapon that they would sell to finance there own colony on mars and research facilities. They were snubbed by the Global research foundation for there Radical views.
They mix a airborne strain of AIDS and Ebola and come up with a deadly creation, more terrible than they even realize. Before they can even finish the job a coaliton of US and English special forces raid the compound in Madrid and surgically remove all the opposition. One of the scientists however was able to set off a bomb in case of such an event, it was suppossed to eliminate everyone and sterilize the site. Well thats what was suppossed to happen.

well the virus escapes and begins to infect the population, infected leave Madrid on ships planes etc,, spreading it everywhere. In a matter of a few weeks cases are reported everywhere. Panic sets in and the UN makes a drastic decision to enact operation: Triton.
All the combat droids are refitted with sterilazation units and put under the control of the Global CDC. These units along with soldiers go house to house in towns to Quarantine the infected. The disease cuts down a persons immune system while it also eats away at the flesh exsposing them even more until death usually within 48 to 72 hours.
Slowly the soldiers are even infected, one by one the governements begin to collapse or go into hiding. In a matter of months the Human Empire begins to crumble. The CDC computer AIQ (artificial Quarantine systems) is put online in control of the CDC bots and systems. The computer of course using its logic comes up with a solution, to erradicate the disease it must eraddicate the hosts.
The CDC bots go house to house now killing all humans they see. A war is started and the earth is torn open. Surgical nuclear strikes are made by the humans manning space defense stations in hopes to eliminate the AIQ. While the war goes on scientists frantically work for a cure, using the cloning technology they are able to come up with a vaccine that repairs the damaged tissue. The virus like most do however mutates and the cure does not work on everyone. Missiles are loaded as well as planes with the vaccine and it is launched into the atmosphere.
The disease is stopped and with a surgical strike the AIQ is taken offline. The humans have won or so they think.

The humans begin to repair the damage. The cdc bots now trying to repair the AIQ, washington DC is in ruins as welll as several major cities.
Governements begin to try and reestablish themselves and attain order. For a few months people begin to survive in large towns fortified from the remaining CDC bots. Many who are able board ships and leave for the outer colonies.
Then in NYC a strange thing happened while a body cleanup was underway by the NY national guard. The bodies came to life. They stood up and they began to eat the soldiers.
Now the world is under siege by the undead. They mainly stay in areas with high radiation and vaccine concentrations like the ruins of old cities. These "runners" are deadly and fast. Outside in the rural areas are the "walkers" slow moving undead that are falling apart with decay. The survivors are in fortified towns far from these parts and most are trying to find old ships to depart earth. They also know that somewhere the CDC is rebuilding and will eventually be back online.

Well i know its a little much but my old players LOVED the game. I converted it to D20 and im also doing it in unisystem. ITs named after the old Judas Priest song Blood Red Skies. Any questions, i know you guys have some!

Surgical nuclear strikes

This would be the Ankh-Morepork definition of 'surgical accuracy', I take it :D

Nothing personal, but I have a real grudge against superviruses that kill in only a couple of days. It's where I refuse to suspend my disbelief.

I disagree. Several contagious diseases (human to human transmission) have been weaponized, and many other diseases that aren't contagious have quick incubation periods. For example, inhaled botulism has a 72 hour incubation period.

In reality, an immediate effect isn't even necessary. Drop said agent into various water supplies or release inhalant into public places, and the longer it takes to kill, the more people will get infected through contact. The only reason anyone would want to use a quick kill virus, is if they want to infect a smaller group such as a military strike on an opposing force or for terror purposes.

Also, with as much progress we have made into genetic research, vaccines, and weaponizing diseases in the last 5 decades, it is feasible that 40+ years into the future, scientists will be able to do much more.

For more information on present day weaponized agents, visit fas.org or cdc.gov.

The only exception that I would have made to the first post is I would have made it the World Health Organization (WHO) after rampant globalization by the UN, not the CDC, which is US based.
