Bloodbloater Ooze CR1?

Given that it does automatic ability damage, it should be rated for a party that at the least might have access to lesser restoration (otherwise, 1/4 of party resources is pretty much out the window, isn't it?). Minimum CR should be 3. I wouldn't give it more than that, as it's pretty wussy, immobile, and dumb.

2) Swarms are immune to targeted effects, and only take splash damage from weapons like alchemist's fire or acid. Thus why there's no big 1d6x2 fire damage against them with alchemist's fire. AFAIK, from my readings.
I want a rules quote on that one.

I gave them 1d3 from a bottle of oil, added a few points of damage in the background and played up the things popping like crazy in the heat (vulnerability). They threw more oil down, draped it in their oil-soaked shirts and cloaks and made sure the heat stayed on. Once they were all out of the water and had tried and exhausted all weapon types, they made sure it had no way back to watery safety and cooked its goose.

Luckily alchemists fire didn't come up. They're immune to single target spells - does alch. fire count as a single target spell effect? I'd have given the 1d6 and then added half again and played up the snap-crackle-pop effect.

Alchemist's Fire said:
A direct hit deals 1d6 points of fire damage. Every creature within 5 feet of the point where the flask hits takes 1 point of fire damage from the splash. On the round following a direct hit, the target takes an additional 1d6 points of damage.

Swarm Subtype said:
A swarm is immune to any spell or effect that targets a specific number of creatures (including single-target spells such as disintegrate), with the exception of mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects) if the swarm has an Intelligence score and a hive mind.

You can't target a single creature in the swarm with a flask of alchemist's fire. So only the splash damage works. And even if you did try, a single locust or something in a swarm taking full damage wouldn't affect the rest of the swarm; the direct-hit damage doesn't apply to every adjacent creature, only the stricken single target; splash damage alone is dealt to everything else nearby.

QUICK EDIT: Note that it doesn't say single-target spells, it says single-target spells or effects. So it does not specifically apply only against Magic Missile etc.

IF attacks were included in effects, that would render all swarms immune to weapon damage.

It also seems quite counter intuitive considering the swarm subtype calls out that the swarms take additional damage from splash weapons. To me, the swarm taking the direct hit damage {+50%) rather than indirect damage, is there to represent the splash hitting a large amount of the 100's of individual creatures in said swarm.

Edit: also unless a swarm can suffer a direct hit from a splash weapon, the damage would still only be 1 point. Because the system always rounds down, +50% damage on 1 damage is still 1 damage.

A swarm takes half again as much damage (+50%) from spells or effects that affect an area, such as splash weapons and many evocation spells.

The 2 damage was for bloodbloaters specifically; they're vulnerable to fire, so take another 50% damage; stacked with the +50% damage as a Swarm, it's double damage from area fire attacks.
