Sorry if this has been asked before.. but

Bluffing in combat...

If my character (Dirk) has a 6 ranks in bluff and +4 ability mod he then has a to bluff mod of "10"

if fighting in combat against another character (Pogo) who has a 10 wisdom.... +0 ability mod.

what does dirk need to roll to have a successful bluff.

You'll have to beat him with an opposed check.

If he rolls 20, you have to roll 10+. If he rolls 19, you have to roll 9+, and so on. (You take ties becaue your key ability is higher.)

I thought it was that the bluffer is setting the DC for Pogo to beat... that is why Dirk succeeds on a tie.

PHB p. 60: "For ties on opposed checks, the character with the higher key ability score wins."

You might also want to allow people with the Sense Motive skill to add those ranks to their Wisdom check.
