Martial Weapon Proficiency is a completely different feat to Exotic Weapon Proficiency which is a completely different feat to Weapon Focus.

But if you have proficiency with a weapon, aren't you considered as having the feat for all intents and purposes?

No.

So a Warblade can trade Martial Weapon Proficiency (Greatsword) for Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Spiked Chain)

And No.

I wouldn't have a problem with the samurai/warblade reassigning the proficiency. It won't make the character any more powerful, just slightly more flexible.

My problem is with the implication that the CW samurai, rather than the OA samurai, is being used!

I had a chance to look at the book this weekend and found one particular bit of text that wouldn't allow it. Under the weapon aptitude it specifically states that they can only do it for feats which apply to a specific weapon. So no shadow greatsword/rapier/etc people.
