[Bo9S] Tell me of the bloodstorm blade

hong

WotC's bitch
I've seen people criticise this prestige class as overpowered. What are the details?

At first glance, the ability to use strikes with ranged attacks, and make melee attacks as ranged attacks, seems OTT.

A lot of the more broken stuff I have seen with the class involves odd interection with using melee only stuff with ranged only stuff. I'll look and see if I can find a few example builds.

Edit: Wizards Char Op boards has a ToB build compendium, has about 4-5 throwing builds listed and I think they all use BSB. ToB Build Compendium. Couple dagger builds, one uses a Valenar double scimitar, and the last one uses a Talenta boomerang.

It allows you to use Power Attack with Thrown Weapons.

It also gives you a free "Returning" weapon property on any weapon you through. Which may not be broken in itself, but can lead to some strange side effects. Such as throwing shurikens. Are they destroyed, or do they return? (I'd assume they are destroyed, but lets assume admantine shurikens).

But yeah, I think it's the whole Power Attack with a thrown weapon that people fear.

Hmm. Valenar double scimitar. Ninja Scroll....

You can do that anyways. Brutal Throw and Power Throw from Complete Adventurer.

Sort of...

Power Throw lets you use Power Attack to trade "to hit" for "damage" only on a 1 for 1 basis, where as the class feature of Bloodstorm Blade allows you throw a weapon using two hands, and trade "to hit" for "damage" only on a 1 for 2 basis.

And since there was already a thread going on around here stating that 2 for 1 power attack is "over the top", I guess they would agree that the BSB ability also follows suit, whereas Power Throw does not, because it limits you to 1 for 1 power attack.
