I bring this up, not to brag, but to remind folks that we've got a lot of games that are very fun that don't get played that often.

Namely:

Code:
Owner Game Name
=======================
Bob Alhambra
Bob Bohnanza
Bob Carcassonne

Bob Citadels
Bob Clans
Craig Colosseum
Craig Drakon - 3rd Edition
Bob El Grande
Bob Elfenland
Craig Game of Thrones, A
Craig Goa
Bob Hansa
Bob Illuminati: Deluxe Edition
Bob I'm the Boss
Bob Imperial
Craig Iron Dragon
Bob Modern Art
Bob Niagara
Craig Phoenicia
Craig Pillars of the Earth, The
Craig Puerto Rico
Craig Railroad Tycoon
Craig RoboRally
Bob Samurai
Bob San Juan
Bob Seafarers of Catan, The
Craig Shogun
Craig Silk Road
Craig Starfarers of Catan
Craig Ticket to Ride
Bob Ticket to Ride: Europe
Bob Tigris & Euphrates

Some get skipped because they play better with more than 3 players. Others because they're looooonnnngggg and others because people have biases against them (some formed after only one play).

You should put Arkham Horror on the latter list. I found that to be a GREAT game, atmospheric, and lots of fun - and would like to play it more often.

I didn't see it as bragging at all, btw. I thought it was a great and useful list. I wish I had more to add to it. Besides, as an avid collector of things myself, I always enjoy seeing other people's impressive collections (so even if it one might see it as bragging, you and Craig certainly have bragging rights!).

And John definitely has bragging rights on RPGs!

And I am sorry if I form my biases too quickly; it only took once to see that Settlers of Catan, Powergrid, and Ticket to Ride are not really fun for me.

We should play Elfenland and Bohnanza because NOBODY has biases against those. ;)

It's about time for some illuminati too. I'm usually the last person to say that.

As for the second list, I'm all down for playing everything A through E soon. We'll get to the others...ummmm....later. :p

Wow! How come? Those are 3 of my (and others) favorites... Just curious as to why.

I can't really 'splain why I don't like illuminati (maybe because I always lose) but I like to play it about twice a year and that's good for me. :)

I can play the three you mentioned over and over and over for hours on end without getting sick of them. Well, within reason. ;)

There's other games I really love to play but others don't so, we don't get to those often.

I've got 4 boardgames that look really neat, but we've never played them. I even stopped lugging them along with me...

I played Arkham Horror at GenCon a while back. I felt like I spent 3 hours looking for useful items and finding none. Meanwhile, a couple of powerful characters were busy fighting and going through portals. Near the end of the game I decided risk my life, fight my way to a gate and try to close it (I'd found a tome of some sort that would let me close it easily). I died before I got there. yay.

I must also admit my own bias against heavily themed cooperative games! I'll certainly play them but they're not my favorite.

Several reasons, actually.

1. They don't excite my imagination. Running energy factories is boring - flying airplanes is exciting. I can daydream about the latter, but not the former. Same thing with Ticket to Ride - the very concept is boring.

2. Those three seem to me that one can do everything "correctly", yet someone else can totally screw the game for you. All that does is frustrate me, and I don't have fun feeling frustrated.

3. I have to admit also that (especially Settlers of Catan), my bias may also have a bit to do with the way the game was taught to me - wherein I feel I was given mediocre to downright bad advice so the teacher could win. (A good game teacher should set aside his competitiveness on the first game, and give the best advice possible).

I suppose I could try again if I felt I wasn't going to get my ass handed to me by vastly more experienced players who are going to use the training game to show off their impressive talent (who really shouldn't feel they have anything to prove in the first place, as I know in a real game they could easily defeat me).

I recently enrolled my kids in Tai Kwan Do. Imagine if the Black Belt Grand Master just took out my kids to prove he is better - would they be interested in learning? No, he teaches them at their level. Likewise, when Mark taught me how to fence, I knew he could beat me with his eyes closed (he wins tournaments, for crying out loud!) but he never brought out the can of whoop-ass until he knew I could handle it. I need games taught to me in like fashion. When they aren't, I get a bad taste in my mouth for the game.

Wings of War, for example, excites my imagination. While condition 2 exists when the Explosion card is around (that card really isn't much fun, and I leave it out these days when I play), the other damage cards just add a dimension of challenge. As for 3, we were all pretty new at it when I learned, so no one really was an expert out to show us Newbies who was boss. When I taught some people this weekend how to play, I did some moves that got me killed so they would have fun shooting me down.

Wings of War is also nice because everyone goes simultaneously. I hate waiting for other people to take their turn, sometimes.
