Boards & Maps

I remember sometime back around 1990 (give or take a couple years) there was a fantasy war game that came with a giant poster terrain battlemap. My brother had it at the time. I always wished I could find out what it was in case that map could be used for D&D.

I thought about asking about it here, but my memory is so vague that I can't really give a good description about it. I just remember the map had images of rivers and grasslands and there were plastic fantasy warriors. The map was really big from what I remember.

I've always wondered how many board games like that would have good maps for D&D.

I think the game you have in mind is... Battlemasters? The third joint production between MB and Games Workshop

Do you mean Battle Masters?

That game was awesome! That and Hero Quest are how I got into painting minis! And the card-based action mechanic was interesting and easy!

Edit--Ninja'd by Infernal Teddy!

I loved Don't Break the Ice*. Good simple fun!

Wikipedia says it was marketed in 1968. How they mean that is unclear, but I got mine as a precocious kiddo in '68-'70 (I was born in '67)- all of my grandparents (and my Mom) were educators, and I've been told I was often given games as part of test-marketing before full release.

I doubt I was playing it right- I know I didn't share my hammer- but I played it a LOT!

Even pick up sticks could be fun to model...like diffusing a bomb.

and I LOVE the idea of using clue.

What about battleship to simulate an erupting volcano, as well? Players place their ships on one side, each round, the dm asks a square, and they take damage...when all the ships are sunk, the volcano explodes.

More games need to capitalize on using other games, like dread does.
