Boba Fett and Mandalorian Armor?

Could someone tell me about Boba and Jango Fett's Mandalorian armor? Not game stats, but where it came from. Is there a place called Mandalor that it came from, or is it just a random descriptive term?

Well, as I understand it--and assuming Lucas doesn't change it--the Mandaloreans are (or were) a group (or perhaps entire race, not sure) of soldiers who work as mercenaries and guns for hire. They were enemies of the Jedi, at one point, and were largely wiped out by the Jedi Order.

Jango isn't Mandalorian by birth, he was taken in by them after being orphaned. (According to the Revised RPG.)

I could be off on some of this, since I'm working from vague memories of stuff I read a while back. Anyone else want to chime in?

There is a series of graphic novels involving a story a few thousand years back in the Republic's history - sorry, I can't remember the name off hand, but it explains who the Mandalorians were. Also, there is a new comic series (only issue 1 has been released as yet) that explains a bit about the more recent Mandalorians and how Jango joined them.

Yeah. In the new DHC series 'Jango Fett - Open Seasons' this still seems to be true. Of course this isnt 'film canon'.

The comics were Tales of the Jedi: Dark Lords of the Sith and Tales of the Jedi: The Sith War both by Dark Horse comics.

The Mandalorians, according to the comic, were once honor bound to serve the Dark Lords of the Sith.

Mandalore is a city in India, famous for its curries and aircraft factory.

Also, the Mandalorians were those funky germ-like things that bugged people who had the Force. Anakin Skywalker had a lot of them. This is why he bugs people so much.
