Boccob's Blessed Book and Cost per Page

Hi Everyone,

From the PHB when writing a new spell into a spellbook:
Materials for writing the spell (special quills, inks, and other supplies) cost 100gp per page
OK, then we have Boccob's Blessed Book in the DMG:
A wizard can fill the 1,000 pages of a Boccob's Blessed Book without paying the 25gp per page material cost.
Is this a typo or error that they do not agree or is the wizard still expected to shell out the 75gp difference per page?

Best Regards

From the 3.5 FAQ:

The cost to write a spell into a spellbook is 100 gp per page
(for materials) as noted in the Player’s Handbook. Note that
with the arrival of D&D 3.5, this cost is half what it used to be,
because spells now require only one page in a spellbook per
spell level (minimum one page), rather than two pages per spell
level.

Wait a sec. Are you saying that the BBB negates all 100gp/page cost of writing spells into a spellbook?

That doesn't make sense. Isn't BBB 10,000gp? That would mean that it costs 1/10th the cost of writing that many spells normally. Does that tradeoff sound right?

The book is 12,500gp (blank). If for some reason there are already spells entered, I would raise the price.
The wizard using the book must still take the time to enter the spells, but the materials for the spellbook are already there (aside from inconsequentials like inks and quills).

The book is extremely useful, as normal spellbooks have only 100 pages and weigh 3 lbs (not taking into account special materials, or alterations) vs. BBB with 1000 pages and 1 lb.... by all accounts well worth the money.

That's right. In 3.0 it wasn't totally clear, and people said "It can't work like that, that would be totally broken." In 3.5 the wording was clarified to say that yes, it is a free lunch.

And that 12,500 is only the market price. If you can craft it yourself it only costs 6,250 (plus XP, of course) and it has no requirements other than Craft Wondrous Item.

Sweet. In a magic heavy world you could make a good living just cranking these things out for profit. :D

The SRD actualy has the cost listed correctly.

Blessed Book: This well-made tome is always of small size, typically no more than 12 inches tall, 8 inches wide, and 1 inch thick. All such books are durable, waterproof, bound with iron overlaid with silver, and locked.
A wizard can fill the 1,000 pages of a blessed book with spells without paying the 100 gp per page material cost. This book is never found as randomly generated treasure with spells already inscribed in it.
