BoEF - Store or Use?

Surprise, surprise. The book has plenty of worthwhile material. I guess that people calling it porn haven't bothered to actually read it (or maybe they don't quite know what real porn is). We have actually used a couple of rules and a monster, and there's a lot more useful stuff that we haven't had an occasion to use such as classes and PrCs.

It has SOME worthwhile material in my opinion but I bought it for the novelty and when I read it I was astounded by some of the silly stuff in there. I have tried to work in a few things to make the purchase justified from a gaming perspective but nothing really jumps out and strikes me as revolutionary.

My advice - open the book, read it and enjoy it. But don't expect to get lots of use out of it for running a game.

A couple of rules and a monster? Yeah I can see that was worth $35.

Anyway I admit - I was trolling. The Book of Elf Pr0n is an old joke and I shouldn't have brought it out of mothballs.

I mean come on, no genuine troll just falls over dead like that... look, the pointy nose is made out of paper!

Hey, this isn't even an orc! It's a halfing wearing green makeup!

The Auld Grump, okay, jokes like that mean that I really need to get some sleep....

That's better than I usually get out of a book.

 Wow. I must be very fortunate in what I buy because most every book I own sees 10 times that amount of material taken from it. Of course I've been burned by some things but to say it has a lot of useful material and then say you've used a couple of rules and a monster doesn't seem like a lot of material to me. YMMV

I bought the $10 preview at Gencon in 2003 - while interesting, it didn't really give me anything to use in my games, since I don't dwell on sexuality in-game all that much, and I don't use a lot of non-core material, anyway. The thing I could have done without was the flavor text, which read like the middle of a Penthouse letter.
