Bones or Angel pairs up with a strong female lead...again

So is this another CSI takeoff?

It seems there are pretty much four types of show on prime time TV today. Faimly sitcom, reality, forensic investigation, & law shows.

I haven't seen too many sitcoms lately that I would consider "family" sitcoms. Most are a bunch of messed up idiots who may or may not live in the same house sneaking around each others' backs and screwing each other over(although one could argue that is an accurate portrayal of family life these days).

But as far as the original topic, I was underwhelmed with Bones. The ending was ridiculous, and I don't know how much of the smart-aleck condescending snarkines of Bones' male team members I can take.

I really disliked Angel, mostly because I couldn't stand Boreanaz, so (on my "I'll give any show once chance" theory) I fully expected to like her and hate him. I was rather surprised to find that I had the opposite reaction. I don't think it was good enough or different enough to bother with on a regular basis, but it wasn't total crap either. Her 'crew' was rather obnoxious, though. If they strike a balance between the 'squints' and the 'suits' so that both are competent yet fallible, it might have promise. If they go the 'evil government bad man always wrong' route it will suck.

By family I mean an idiot father and his smart wife and kids. Ala King of Queens and such shows.

Isn't that always the way? Even in commercials, the man is always the idiot, the one who buys the wrong cleaning product, the one who gets bad diarrhea on the way to work and makes his carpool wait on him while he stops to use the john.

Maybe they should call them "Average Joe" sitcoms (or something a little more inclusive of both genders if you can think of anything).

Watched it last night. Found it boring, dry, and terribly un-clever. I'll try to watch the second episode to see if it improves because I really like the concept and think that it has the potential to be the totally unbelievable form of entertaining that I love so much.

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, either. Which means it'll probably take off. Some critics are already calling it "the best new drama of the season", for whatever that's worth.

I noticed something that first became evident in the "Valentine" movie he was in -- David Boreanaz, without some top-notch writing behind him, is not that good of an actor. He's kinda... there. Deschanel I liked; her character's feistiness was something she carried well. In fact, She and the "squints" were pretty fun to watch. I'm waiting to see something more from Boreanaz, though.

Since I have nothing better to watch Tuesdays, I'll keep watching this.

OH no someone told Angel to grow up, put on a suit and get a job :(.

The show kept me involved and combined with house will probably become my Tuesday night staple. It's like a family hour CSI-- no blood, no guts but the same mystery. I hope this show can take the genre in a new direction the way house has done medical dramas.
