Bonuses

ok, I never would have considered taking the WP feat AND another feat that gives proficiency to try to stack the proficiency bonus from the weapon itself. I would look at it as the bonus doesn't even get the chance to see if it stacks based on type simply because the bonus is not directly provided by a feat or skill it's just if you are proficient in this weapon you get +x to hit with it, and since you can only be proficient, not double proficient, the question of does the proficiency bonus stack with proficiency bonus would never come into play.

And not to you Draco but the other person.
Raw and cs agree that AV superior weapons are granted proficiency by the dwarf and eladrin feats. There is no specific rule that omits those weapons from those feats, and just like the weapon focus feat that works on the entire group, so do those feats as written.

Well, yeah, obviously proficiency is a binary state, on or off, but even if it weren't you -still- couldn't get the bonus twice. Mine's more of a 'if it weren't true it'd still be true' explanation of why it can't be any other way.

In otherwords, I am agreeing with ya.

Well, I'm still on the fence as to whether eladrin soldier grants proficiency with the Greatspear (from adventurer's vault).

Eladrin Soldier and Dwarven Weapon Fighting granting you both proficiency and a damage bonus seems to be perfectly in line with the new feats that just came out in the Gladiator article which grant proficiency and an effect when using the weapon.

There is also the fact that if they only gave you +2 damage, then they would be pretty useless in the Epic tier since Weapon Focus gives you +3 by then.

Agreed. Not to mention their drawback is the 'Prerequisite: Eladrin' and 'Prerequisite: Dwarf' lines, which are disadvantages if you're trying to maximize Strength for attack power in melee classes.

Well, there is the eladrin swordmage .. :erm:

Yes, but the big advantage of Eladrin Soldier is proficiency with all those snazzy superior spears, whereas swordmages need light of heavy blades for a) their implement powers and b) swordmage warding. Since there are no spears that are also blades, that's not quite as super-optimal as it appears. You can do it, but your best-case is dual-wielding a one-handed spear and a shortsword, but even then you're eating 2 points of AC loss from swordmage warding (which can be partially mitigated by Two-Weapon Defense, but still).

Not to mention, sword-based feats don't work with the gamut of swordmage powers, so you're limiting your build somewhat.

Which is to say, not necessarily a bad thing.
