Just like that new setting nobody has seen, but everyone has an opinion of. Already garnering more controversy than either the Book of Mild Dorkness or the Book of Nekkid Half-Orc Chicks. Just because people dislike something you like, doesn't mean they are all goody two-shoes and you are the super cool morally depraved one. However, as cheesy as the BoVD was, from the websites provided, the BoEF isn't even in the same ballpark, that photography ranges from unintentionally humorous to plain tasteless. That is a little more information than the new setting that everyone has an opinion on with much less support.

By "that photography", do you mean the photography from Hypnox's personal web site or the photographic previews on the Valar Project web site?

I ask because there is a heck of a lot of difference in the two (his personal stuff did abolutely nothing for me but I love the BoEF stuff).

His personal stuff was worse than the BoEF material, but neither was very impressive to me. Julie Strain gets models to come up with a lot better stuff than Hypnox ever will. Due to extreme nudity, I will not post a link, but look around the Heavy Metal website for Julie Strain's photography. Now if she had been the photographer, I would definitely have considered the product. She can tastefully photograph women.

I think taste in this type of photography is interpretive. Its quality can't be universally agreed upon. I'm sure there are people out there who don't mind, or even love the art.

I totally agree. Working in the illustration field as both an illustrator and an art director I totally understand this. But sometimes you just have to look at something like this and realize that there are varying degrees and taste in general to appeal to. Shock marketing is fine, just know that you are limiting your target audience when bizarre elements are added. I am not opposed to nudity when portrayed ina fairly normal setting, just not in the context of the types of rpgs I run and my players like to play. However, I did point out the links to my players, and we all agreed that this type of product is not for our group. My reaction is mellow compared to a couple of regular players.

If I use this In a Campaign I would scare my friends with erotic attempts to get some booty.

[DM] Okay, John Longbone you have her legs spread, now what are going to do?
[John Longbone ] I'm going in!
[DM]Alright then, Lets roll it!
[John Longbone] Damn it! I roll a 1!
[DM] Oh my....

:D It's already caused all the controversy the BoVD ever did - the usual suspects come out of the woodwork and pronounce the sky to be falling based off of rumors and half-truths, and then, surprisingly, the sky never falls.

I find that hard to believe. BoVD was a WotC product, = much wider distribution. There were supplements to it in Dragon and Dungeon. All D&Ders knew/know about it.

A lot of gamers don't know the BoEF exists.

If one concedes that sex has been a major motivating factor for men throughout history this could have been a very interesting book.

Afterall, there is a signficant group of historians who analyze history in Freudian terms. Man seeks power - to impress women - to reproduce. Now, I'm not saying I buy this line of thought hook-line-and-sinker. However it is a legitimate line of inquiry for historians; much as Marxists historians can add to our understanding of history with their analytical methods.

I was hoping this book might take this kind of approach - it does not. If anything it trivializes the subject. I examined the book at GenCon and Buttercup is right - it's a book about the art. If you like this kind of art - you'll like it. It has virtually nothing to add to most people's games. The art certainly is not my cup of tea.

Well, I've already found crunchy stuff from the preview section of the Valar website that I can use in my game. And I like that type of artwork. So I've already pre-ordered a copy of the book.
