I do not agree with this at all. As long as you live there is hope. As long as you live there is the chance to get better, to get over it. Dead is dead - no more chances, no more hope, no more anything.

Just stating that it is better to kill than to rape is so wrong I can't really put it in words. You basically say that any rape victim is better off dead, since that would be more merciful.

A rape victim can always coose death, suicide is just a pack of sleep tablets or a tall building away, but a murder victim can't choose life.

What disturbs me is the apparent focus on deviant sexuality and "kink". I don't know about others, but I view bondage, S&M, and other fetishes as disturbing to say the least. I don't find any of the aforementioned "kink" erotic at all. I find a fully clothed woman in a revealing position a lot more erotic, than a naked one tied up being beaten.

With that said, I can see a book detailing love and romance, even sexuality to an extent, in a fantasy millieu as interesting and worthwhile , even if I wouldn't personally buy it. Afterall, love and sexuality are themes of many great epics. However, from what I've heard BoEF doesn't cover any of this. Instead we get PrCs for S&M, sexually active monsters, and "sex magic" (I scored last night so I can now cast spells at with a higher effective caster level. Hehehe).

Also, what's with the digital photos? Do we really need to see photos of nekid elf babes in a game manual? If I want to excited, I'll get a real porn magazine, not a game manual.

The d20 market is really getting interesting now that we're getting some niche products like this. I just don't want to see what's next.

Disclaimer: I haven't seen the actual BoEF yet. All my information comes from the what I've heard from others.

Let me tell you, roleplaying murder is NOTHING like roleplaying rape, they cannot be, for they are very different in the real world. Both are violent acts against people, one terminal, the other leaving the victim with permanent mental scars. Killing something is much more merciful that screwing it up for life.

So, would you advice any rapist to kill the victim afterwards, to prevent any lasting mental scars?

I just don't see rape as more severe than killing.

I personally don't think the product will sell well. It sounds much more adult than the BoVD. This game is still one that a bunch of people sit around playing with friends from all walks of life, many who won't be into such extreme fetishes and perversities.

I have no idea how large the subset of fetish gamers is, though I will be surprised if it moves that many copies. It sounds like a book with no real redeeming value to most gamers. The art sounds sick and twisted appealing only to the most perverse of minds.

Not my cup of tea. I didn't pick up the BoVD, though my friend has been using creatures and spells from it that seem interesting though a few are slightly overpowered. I dont' intend to pick up this book of trash.

I don't see "killing" somebody in a RPG by the use of sword or magic invoking personal memories of a near one being murdered. I think it's a forced connection that folks here are making for the sake of argument. Those that do have a problem with this would likely stay away from RPGs to begin with. I do think that rape, whether it is on TV, in a book, or in a game, does invoke those kinds of memories for victims.

When we have folks debating the pros and cons of murder vs. rape, when we have folks accusing others of being hypocrites or prudes or whatever, then the thread ceases to be something I wish to moderate.
