Book of Exalted Deeds Excerpts up

Looks pretty interesting.. I like some of the new costs and components (abstaining from harming another for 8 hours to cast a spell is just nifty). That said, I do have some fears that in time, continued products that expand the rules may cause a sort of snowballing effect ala later editions of games like Magic the Gathering. Pardon the analogy, but I can definitely see people going "Bwah?" to some future rules piles as people did as they saw Morphing, Phasing, Flanking creatures.

All I really want now is the Book of Lawful Neutrality... Neutrals and Law/Chaos aligned unite to overthrow the DND Minis / Books obvious bias towards good n evil!

Well, it doesn't look bad this new book. But the new monster annoys me a lot. How many times do we still have to see new antropomorphic animal-like creatures? It looks like when WotC writes up new monsters they just take a biology book and sort out which animal they haven't used yet. And for good's sake stop with all those monks! :p

So far I like what I see, although some of the spells seem just a little too powerful (Just like in the BoVD).

I agree about the preview creature. Lets get something other than some kind of human/animal creatures.

Well, how could I turn away now that I've been summoned?

Indeed!!!

Can you tell us how many of the monsters/creatures are converted old archons/eladrins/guardinals? And how many are other things?

I balked at the AoP's rapid spell advancement as well at first, but look at their spell list. The focus on nonviolence makes them a little less powerful, so the progression isn't as abusive as it might look at first.

I agree. I think because of the focus on peaceful resolution and nonviolence that the PrC has, it needed a bit more oomph to it. So far I'm cool with what I'm seeing.

OK, I must be clueless...what's BoHM?

Monte Cook's Book of Hallowed Might.

I was wondering how people were planning to use this book, as DMs. I can see lots of player options, but I've got this idea for an apostle of peace trying to get in the way of the party fighting some other group. Not a nasty cult of the like, but perhaps some regional dispute.

Other ideas?

Hi all! :)

I will definately be picking up this book.

From the preview: I thought the spells* were definately the most interesting facet; the prestige classes (probably needing more study on my part) seem okay; but the monster example was totally uninteresting (though I quite liked its illustration). It wasn't its anthropomorphised nature that turned me off but rather its lack of any unique selling point...I mean give its horn some meaning; or make its charge special; or make it immovable, something...anything. Not that all monsters need a USP, but a more interesting monster would have enticed more people into buying the book you would have thought.

*Was it just me or was the Bolt of Glory table mixed up with the Axiomatic Creature table?

I wonder if Darrin can tell us when (or indeed if) we are likely to see the book updated into the Art Gallery section on Wizards website? If thats not likely to happen soon, can he comment on whether the number of 'Lords of Good' detailed in that book is comparable to the Book of Vile Darkness' Lords of Evil section?

I'm almost busting to ask whether the full spectrum of the upper races are covered within that chapter (Angels; Archons; Eladrin and Guardinals*...and perhaps the Storm Kings of Arcadia) since the Book of Vile Darkness was happy enough to omit Daemons/Yugoloths and Demodands/Gehreleths; though I don't want Darrin breaking any NDAs.

*It seems obvious that the Guardinals are covered, given one of the Prestige Classes in the preview.

With the spells, we will apparently see some "old favorites" updated to 3.5 rules, too. The spell chapter seems to be quite "symmetric" with the one of the BoVD, which makes much sense.
The prestige classes seem ok, and I very much agree on the rhek. And the pic for it is just... plain wrong.

Apparently, not just you.

Based on previous expirience, it will be up soon (But I don't think Darrin has much input on that aspect of the book).
