I just got back from the local bookstore. I saw Dry Land: Empire of the Sand from Thunderhead Games or more recently Mystic Eye Games. This one was in the works while it was still Thunderhead which is why I am talking to Hal here.
I am a huge fan of Bluffside. My DM ran me through Interludes: Brief Expiditions to Bluffside and I really liked it. Since I am a DM too, I went ahead and picked it up as well as the bigger Bluffside book. The main Bluffside book was 144 pages for $22.95. It's well worth it as it is one of the best city supplements to date. Now for the tragedy. In my local Bookstore today I find Dry Land: Empire of the Sand. 144 pages for $22.99!
I am outraged! A 4 cent increase and no increased page count?! Blasphemy. I know these game designers are rolling in the dough and have no sense of reality when it comes to money, but that's a .17% increase in price!!! That comes to roughly one quarter of a page that I paid for and did not get. I have a family to feed, I can't keep paying for a quarter of a page I never get! I have lost all faith when even people I like and trust like Hal Greenberg sell out and reap the benefits of big time publishing like RPG books. This is the saddest day in the history of gaming. Ever.
PS: If you really feel this way, please speak up so I can laugh at you. I mean comiserate with you.
