Book Pricing (MEG Hal, I'm talking about you!)

Harlock

First Post
I just got back from the local bookstore. I saw Dry Land: Empire of the Sand from Thunderhead Games or more recently Mystic Eye Games. This one was in the works while it was still Thunderhead which is why I am talking to Hal here.

I am a huge fan of Bluffside. My DM ran me through Interludes: Brief Expiditions to Bluffside and I really liked it. Since I am a DM too, I went ahead and picked it up as well as the bigger Bluffside book. The main Bluffside book was 144 pages for $22.95. It's well worth it as it is one of the best city supplements to date. Now for the tragedy. In my local Bookstore today I find Dry Land: Empire of the Sand. 144 pages for $22.99!

I am outraged! A 4 cent increase and no increased page count?! Blasphemy. I know these game designers are rolling in the dough and have no sense of reality when it comes to money, but that's a .17% increase in price!!! That comes to roughly one quarter of a page that I paid for and did not get. I have a family to feed, I can't keep paying for a quarter of a page I never get! I have lost all faith when even people I like and trust like Hal Greenberg sell out and reap the benefits of big time publishing like RPG books. This is the saddest day in the history of gaming. Ever.

PS: If you really feel this way, please speak up so I can laugh at you. I mean comiserate with you.

Due to the increase in price by 4 cents we have been able to finally afford the MEG company jet. Hal took him and the five girls he rented to Jamaica for the weekend (but forgot his pants) and should be returning tonight. Thank you for supporting our efforts to purchase our company jet as those efforts have now paid off. Amazing what 4 cents can do!

If Hal can unwrap his hands from the shot glasses I am sure he will respond as soon as he is back!

Ah ha! I knew it. You RPG publishers and you lavish lifestyles... you just tell Hal to drink a toast to my son (because I had to get that extra four cents out of his college fund) next time he drinks a $300 bottle of cognac on his private jet with his rented lady-friends.

You can have all the prices be different as long as you make sure to inlcude that extra 4 cents. If not, we may not be able to buy the jet fuel we need for our "world hot spot" tour.
