I think barring some specific builds, everything works fine. Probably specialized grappler won't work. But that is a feature, not a bug.

Edit: I would probably let them just use 2014 rules for their grapples.
Since the 2024 rules are nearly identical to the rules, monsters of 2014 use anyway, it should pose no problem.

In my mind, "backwards compatible" means that a 10th level elven fighter frpm 2014 can play at the same table as a 10th level fighter from 2024. They might feel different, but they can PLAY IN THE SAME GAME, which is really what's most important: that a group of people can sit down at a table and have a good time.
