I never cared for half-elves in particular and half-races in general. So, as I advance the timeline in my homebrew, I was thinking of making a sub-race of humans. These folks spend their lives trying to reclaim tainted land near the border where the aberrations devoured an empire back in the day. The folks are clever and adaptable as well as being tough as nails. I do like the diletante ability of the half-elves and I wanted to incorporate that as well. Bordermen have to strong of body and mind due to the fell things that cross the border, but I chose charisma rather than wisdom as living in the danger zone can't be that bright.
The Dark Border novels by Paul Zimmer is the obvious inspiration. I've pretty much made the eladrin the Children of Hastur.
Would this be a race you would consider or is this too much, little?
