Borders Stopped Stocking D&D Minis

So I made a big stink this weekend at Borders, and two things came up that were interesting:

1) There's "no room to stock D&D minis" so the staff is putting them in the overstock area. Which is in a corner of the bookstore, way up on a top shelf. Once I realized this, the staff went up a ladder to get me yet another boxed set of War of the Dragon Queen minis.

2) When asked if I could order more, they emphatically stated that "we just get them whenever Borders tell us they're in stock." They made it clear that I can't order D&D minis specifically, ask for them, or otherwise encourage the store to get them.

Still, there appears to be a small backstock of older sets that I'll continue to buy. I also saw a whole three boxes of one of the newer sets, so for the moment I'm satisfied.

I have a hard time believing Borders won't order things for you upon request. That seems bizarre to me. Is that their policy for books? If not, I don't see why they would differentiate between them. You might have to put down a deposit, but not placing orders for you is lost business and any store manager worth his salt wouldn't let that happen (you did speak with the manager didn't you? Not the numbnut clerks who probably couldn't care less about your desires).

My local Borders stocks DDM, they're on the top of the shelves holding the Sci Fi books. I've bought a few here and there, but otherwise it's rare for one to change positions from my last visit.

That said, if it has an ISBN, they will fall all over themselves to order things for me, counter-clerk/ manager/ homeless guy outside, all will be happy to get me whatever I want.

I think the OP just has a bad store. :)

A while back, the local B&N had some stuff and seemed to be dabbling in D&D stuff, but then kind of pulled back and stopped carrying most of the stuff. I talked to the manager about it, she said they'd tried to drum up interest, but no one was buying. I explained that for me it was mostly due to them getting books & stuff weeks after everyone else got them. (At first because of WotC's policy, later because they just didn't care.) They still don't stock anyting though.

Isn't it a great thing for a shop to have nice people treating you friendly, and shop policies that make it easy for you to get the products you need?
