Borders Stopped Stocking D&D Minis

No wonder our beloved comic-store-guys are so snide.

I actually didn't suffer from much theft. There were some non-gamer kids up to no good when I first opened, but I think they only got one GW blister. The only other theft problem was with one guy who tried to palm D&D minis from my common singles basket. He would try it with me standing right in front of him across the counter. Amazing gall. Same guy stole dice from other players. It was actually funny one day when I saw that he had one of my 6-sided dice (from the personal collection). Claimed he bought the die at some store a year before when I asked him to return it. Too bad it was one of 20 identical 6-sided dice I bought in 1983 when my magic-user made 20th level and I wanted 20 identical dice for fireballs and lightning bolts. I got the die back.

Theft!

The only reason I don't believe it's a HUGE issue for our store is because we've got the DDMs and Anime books and the like right next to one of our security desks and our chairs and our escalator, so there's no little hidden corner where they can go and rip it open. Plus, our clientelle doesn't have that many kids (which, come to think of it, might be why we don't sell that many).

It is store manager & staff driven at Borders. The Borders closest to me has some gaming stuff, and a few boxes of minis on the shelves. One a little further away has a lot more. The reason they have more? Several of the staff members are gamers (four I know of), so they make sure the store manager orders enough. They don't keep them behind the registers at that store, but they are smart enough to locate the gaming section in a place that is easily observed from both the registers and the information desk.

Two weekends ago I bought out the last two boxes. They weren't even newer sets.

They were from older sets, which are usually less common on the shelves and thus often more expensive? If you were able to set up a poll on the Wizards minis boards, you should make one asking "Is finding a booster of an old set in some store, for the old price or maybe even lower, your #1 Wet dream?" And most answers would be YES! YES! YEEEES! ;)

I guess they might not have sold enough of them. Combine that with the hassle of keeping them away from grasping thieves' claws (or suffering from said claws), and they might not have an interest in them.

I imagine he means War Drums, that is nothing to get excited about.

War of the Dragon Queen was one set...trying to remember what the others were. They were only one or two sets behind.

The most recent sets haven't shown up at all, including whatever the "Ravenloft-type" set was.
