Boring boring games

I gamed in a group that often got sidetracked off on extended trips to the market for the purchasing and bartering whims of a pair of players. The DM seemed to enjoy this so it was indulged. After one particular session when nothing was accomplished but 4 hours of shopping, those of us who were politely/silently waiting for something to happen with our characters protested the evening as a waste.

I try to end adventures toward the end of a session to avoid this. I don't allow role playing for shopping unless it's actually part of the adventure, but if it's standard upkeep or upgrading, I tell my players to take care of it between games because they know the rules regarding buying and selling items and what I allow so I don't need to watch over their buying process.

It was cool that you derailed the other players attempt to hog the spotlight for something as mundane as shopping.

I have to admit that our games are getting so boring, that they are actually fun! Well... not exactly, but...

Yesterday we started a sci-fi-campaign and it was "refreshing" to see the same pattern repeat itself as always.

The first hour went when we had to answer off-game to GM's questions to things like what is the name of the spaceship and what is the name of our company etc.
The next two hours went like this: Our pilot rolled piloting skill rolls and 95% of the game was GM moving the ships on a board. Otherwise everyone just waited something to happened. GM was veeeeeery technical about things and explained great deal of technical data.
The last hour went roleplaying an introduction between players, but by this time everyone was too braindead already.

But I did love it when GM informed us that we had NBC-suits abroad. I asked him "what use are NPC-suits for us, we can't even use them!"
