Bothered About Disposable Dragons (B.A.D.D.) Membership Drive

1. Well the gnomes are in state of heighten alert, because so far, Durlock has only sent in small incursions. He's getting some tributes (magical stuff) that help his cause...but he's getting a little anxious because other followers of Chern are working on getting him freed. So he might step up his offensive even if the tributes continue. The gnomes are VERY skilled illusionists as well as enchanters. They have access to small arsonal of magic weapons, armors, and even a small artifact that helps protect their town. Their leader is also a wizard type that has actually fought against Durlock, but is very old and not always able to combat him. I do think though it might be in his interests to get involved.

2. Now this idea I like, mainly because the gnomes are, as you said a known quantity. Besides which, the dragon isn't comfortable serving ANYONE but himself. So having some help, while also doing some raids further afield (at least to keep Cimber occupied. He's kind of a hot head) might prove useful.

3. I imagine he can find a couple agents, or at least he can gain access to a few as his magics are quite powerful even for a dragon.

I really, really think that we should revert to OD&D stats for dragons. And reintroduce subdual. Red dragon - 70hp.

Personally, I think that at the least d10 or even d8 is a much more reasonable dragon hit die.

I do agree that they shouldn't crop up regularly for PCs to hunt in any campaign - after all, wouldn't they have been just about hunted to death by other adventuring parties?

Actually, the "real" Sable Wyvern was a great big nasty dragon, well worthy to be used in the campaign of any BADD member. (Although, admitedly, it was hunted down and killed by a mighty hero - who also died in the fight.)

Later on someone built an inn on the place where it fell, and named it The Sable Wyvern's Sorrow.

Oops.

Sorry. Forgot to include ;)

I'm actually going to be using OD&D CM7 The Tree of Life IMC in a few levels. There are a few dragons in there, and I can assure you that they will be treated by me in a fashion that you would approve of.

IOW, consider me BADD.

Your approval makes my scales tingle, my talons eager and my belly rumble with unquenchable fire. It is akin to the sounds of naive adventurers as they approach their doom, or the sweet smell of a young virgin's fear.

dragons as baddies

Mythusmage: always assume dragons are dangerous:

There is a difference between dangerous and potentially dangerous.

Dragons, being smarter than people, can be reasoned with, as you say, if the proper etiquette is observed. (Not knowing their name, Sir Dragon is always a proper address, etc.)

In fact, since I doubt many on this discussion will be at a con in which I use the scenario in question, they not only prefer to be friendly, they are essential to the band's survival.

The band gets shipwrecked on an island of unknown location, the only other creatures on the island are a dragon couple who live in a cave in the largest mountain. They hunt elsewhere but don't leave because there is a major treasure in a narrow pocket of their cave. They are too large to get down the passage, although they can see it. There is minimal gold, but something even more valuable to a dragon sage, a whole library of scrolls!

They are quite willing to go for help to get the band off the island, but want the humanoids to get the treasure out of that just out-of-reach hideyhole. They will even let any sages in the band copy scrolls until help arrives. However, also being dragons, they will not tolerate threats or treachery. Otherwise barbecued humanoids and more frustrating time spent waiting for someone to let them see what is on those scrolls.

Hey, thanks for bumping the thread. I've been meaning to do this for a while.

I've been thinking about B.A.D.D. Sure, it's a cool idea and all, and I'm happy to see some many people proclaiming their loyalty to B.A.D.D. in their sigs, but I'd like to see us go further.

As I've mentioned before, I'd like to see us take all the recent adventures featuring dragons and come up with challenging tactics for the creatures. I've come up with some ideas so far, but I'd like to see everyone contribute.

Now, I'm not sure if I'm the man to lead such an endeavor--I'm spread a bit thin these days. And I'm not sure whether we should list these tactics here on this board or on a webpage.

Ideas? Anyone want to step forward and embrace this project?

Discuss, please. :D
