Bothered About Disposable Dragons (B.A.D.D.) Membership Drive

BADD

You sure know how to give an archivist nightmares! I have been fighting the old B.A.D.D. (Pulling) since the 1980s. I am Chair of CAR-PGa, the Committee for the Advancement of Role-Playing Games, which started as a game defense group. It still has to defend occasionally, but has gone on to more enjoyable studies such as using RPG in school curriculum, and improving the state of the art in rules and playing techniques.

It is in this region that we can work together. While our monthly Newsletter is $10.00 per year and likely to go up with the next postage increase, dues are non-monetary, being documented work for the cause.

In my personal prejudice, I would suggest abandoning D&D and trying a more realistic RPG. For instance, in Mythworld, dragons are: strength 8D6, constitution 3D6, size 4D6+12 (quadruped, which comes to 1.8-4m at the shoulders and 880 to 11,200 kg weight), intelligence 3D6+6, mana (magic powering and resisting) 4D6, trustworthiness 3D6, and sanity 3D6; they move on land at 5m/s for 100m; fly: dive 60, 100m 50, 1km 40, 100km 30, and gliding stall speed is 20 unless wingbeat hovering; swim: 100m at 3m/s, l km at 1, but rarely swim. Armor is D8+4 skin against impale and slash, 75% round down against crush. Without going into damage bonus, habitat, occupations, diet, etc. that should seem a fairly accurate dragon.

CAR-PGa has a discussion list on <yahoogroups.com> and subscribe for <car-pga>. Information on joining CAR-PGa can be found at <theescapist.com/car-pga>. You are welcome to join the discussion without joining CAR-PGa, but considering you would be paying our dues in doing so, you might as well join.

I'm in. I won't be able to do that much, but a dragon shouldn't be killed easily. It should be like Shooting Star, the red from Lodoss who took out an army. Dragons aren't something for PCs to easily kill. They are not stupid beasts. They are powerful and smart fighters, and DMs should play them as such.

The reason dragons are abused, is because sometimes the dragons are put into a situation that they really shouldnt be in, ON THE GROUND!

On that note, I'm in on this one, B.A.D.D. for life!

I tend to agree. Although a dragon can be a terrible melee opponent, against a group of PCs who gang up on it while grounded, the dragon is just so much hamburger. :(

The mere whisper of a dragon's name should make brave men soil their armor and cry for their mommies.

I'm in.
Let the nightmares begin...

Yes! Dragons are overused! Sign me up for B.A.D.D. (did you get rid of the former owners of the title -- Bothered About Dungeons and Dragons? :) If so, I salute you). My players long to come across a dragon (they're only level 6). Hehehe.. We'll see what they think about that after they finally meet one...

Despite my intense hatred of the beasts.... without a group like this, the killing of dragons will no longer have the prestige it used to.

So let's make the Dragons the big baddies they are, so that I'll get the respect I deserve when I take them apart regardless...
