Bothered About Disposable Dragons (B.A.D.D.) Membership Drive

Ahem.

I must say, it troubles me dearly to hear that my brethren, though be it of a different Realm, are being walked upon and downtrodden by these lesser races of beings.

Three Wyrms struck down in as many days? Surely these must be mere hatchlings whose lives were taken so quickly, and were not well trained in their upbringings as the true force behind the throne's upon which you weak mortals rest your ever short lives. Do these lesser beings not realize they are nothing more but a mere playthings for our amusement? Of course, if one such as I discovered wyrmlings as weak as these, I would slay them myself and take their assets as my own. But that is another matter for discussion entirely.

So you wish to support the dragonkind, and aid their rise to power? I commend such activities, for, as many of you know, we are the true rulers, the power that strikes fear into the most stalwart. Our mere shadow falling across the land strikes terror into those we hunt. We are the most powerful, and the lesser races should tremble before us. There are few things as satisfying as to see the look of panic flush the faces of those foolish enough to disturb me, only to realize their lives a forfeit.

My kind is not a foolish race, as they have been portrayed. Those that are foolish enough to be caught unaware deserve to pay for their folly in their own blood. We have not lived for centuries and not learned a trick or two to, shall we say, to 'Best protect our interests.'

I do not feel it is beneath one of my stature to manip...I mean utilize the talents of others to protect my interests, whether personal, or assets of my Corporation. You can rest assured that my abodes are well protected, both from the physical intrusion as well as the Arcane. Soldiers patrol the halls, well armed against intruders, as well as magical defenses to ensure some puny mortal mage will not disturb me from items that require my personal attention. It amuses me to think some mere mortal would attempt to defeat one such as me with their weak magicks. There is more than one surprise awaiting the surefooted fool who thinks to hide amongst the darkness to evade detection. There are things lurking in the shadows far more deadly than those who think to hide in the darkness or fancy themselves to be a whisper in the darkness.

Of course, not being entirely familiar with the lands of which you speak, I do not know the mind-set of my kin. Perhaps they have gone soft in the ages, or believe every situation is solved by mere brute-force. I shall have to monitor the progress of your attempts to restore the glory of my race closely.

As a side note, I must say, I rather enjoy the concept of using these 'adventurer's' you speak of as a 'flossing between meals', though myself, I have much more elegant dining habits.

Rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated, though one could see how that could be greatly beneficial in some circumstances.

For a rather prime example of the tactics of my kin, see the recorded activities of one known as Ghostwalker. A tad bit barbaric in tactics, but efficient none the less.

Now, if you will excuse me, I have an important business meeting to attend. There is this slight matter of the new "Treaty" established in Denver that requires my "attentions".

:D

Although I never was much fascinated by Shadowrun, I absolute loved (and still love) Earthdawn. It's dragons were really amazing characters.

Welcome to B.A.D.D., Lofwyr.

Well i'm gone for the weekend and suddenly B.A.D.D. has become one of the highest posting organisations on the boards, awesome.

As for ruleing worlds in dragonstar we rule countless worlds. A group of dragon slayers wouldn't last long here.

Any mid to high level dragon should be nearly unbeatable, especially the ones with good sorcerer progression.

Contigency Heal spell should he ever fall to 1 HP. (my favorite)

I would suggest that the contingency be set as "any time he should ever have less than 70 hp."

A fighter will regularly do more than 12 HP damage, killing the dragon before the contingency heal you gave could take affect. You really need to scale it so that a fighter is unlikely to do that much damage in a single attack. This will vary a bit depending on dragon, but takes a Great Wyrm to reach 18th level and even then many types of dragons are not that powerful a caster.

The only evil dragon type I could find capable of this is the Red Great Wyrm. Seems like a good idea to heal any time they get down to 10% of their hit points. Many of the metalic dragon Great Wyrms can do it.

Just curious, how many people have a dragon pick up Endure Elements as one of thier first spells? Since it lasts all day even for a first level caster, any dragon that takes bonus damage from a type of energy damage would cast it every day against that type of damage. Even though it only protects against 5 hp damage, that would save 10 hp on a white versus fire damage. Not a lot when it comes to the big dragons, but after having cast it every day for a few hundred years I figure it would become habit.

I'm definitely up for membership here.

I let the group I run face an abandoned very young green dragon once they reached 3-4th level. It nearly hosed the big, brutish half-orc fighter on the first round. The players very quickly gained a healthy respect for the beasts. Right now, they're digging through an underground ruins, knowing full well that somewhere down there is the lair of a red dragon for they've seen one of its scales. They're terrified and will do everything in their power to avoid a confrontation.

Some players can be taught. :)

Joining is easy! Just proudly proclaim that you're Bothered About Disposable Dragons.

After reading Cloudgatherers thread (a well handled encounter by my estimation) and countless stories over the last 25 plus years of pushover Dragons, I must commit to the cause. I am adding the proclamation to my sig.

Glad to see that membership is soaring.

I'll ask again on this thread--anyone know how I can get in touch with Jesse Decker, the editor of Dragon? I'd like to invite him to take part in this discussion, since he wrote a great article in Dragon recently on draconic tactics.
