Boxed RPG set cost?

Hi-
Would any of the d20 publishers know what the cost might be to put a boxed set together? I'm thinking along the lines of Chaosiums old thieves world box set or ring world were you recieved a players guide and a game masters guide to what ever setting they published.
Heck, it might be even cheaper then publishing a hard bound book.

Thanks

Based on some comments by Ryan Dancey and others, I'd think not. (IOW, not cheaper than a hardbound) The near-total lack of such boxed sets might also be a clue.

IIRC, shortly after WOTC took over TSR, someone decided to sit down and actually figure out what it cost them to produce a boxed set -- since no one had bothered doing this before. The answer was a sort of good news/bad news thing:

Good news: They knew what it cost to produce a boxed set.
Bad News: It was a dollar more than they were selling them for.

And people wonder why TSR went belly up...

I like them when they were called for. They diod produce way too many, but the Sanctuary box set was very good. It had a nice large map of the city and smaller maps of particuliar places. It had a booklet for DMs and one for Players. I also really like the Planscape box sets. THey were very well done. Aside from those, however, there wern't many good ones.

Hi-
Thanks guys for the info, as a player or DM I like my player/DM info seperated, less wear and tear on books.
Yes; I personally think the Thieves World boxed set was the perfect way to present that perticular world.
My thinking was, any bozo with a computer can put out rubbish but a box set is a sign that perhaps there might be some quality
involved here. Ya I know TSR put some real garbage out but I'm looking more to Chaosium for my example of good work, not TSR.
