Break a Ritual!

It says it floats 1' off the ground, not that it can fly. I assume it's WotC ignoring the third dimension rather than them intentionally creating a 1st level ritual that gives anyone who can cast it a fly speed for 24 hours.

Using it to help others keep up is cool though. :)

I think you're right. However, you can still allow it to transport you over traps, acid, lava, water, etc.. Unless you think a water-walking character with a tenser disk behind him would have the disk plunge into the water to the bottom as soon as he started walking across water...which is not my interpretation.

Wouldn't the ground be under the liquid? If there is a puddle on the ground, I don't step ON the puddle, I step IN the puddle, to ground underneath.

It's still amusing to think of some morbidly fat gangster type who can't move around without his fancy magic, however. :)

Which is why I said a water-walking character with a disk following him. For that character, the ground is the water.

A new ritual must now be created: preserve disease!

You know, that's not a half-bad idea. "Preserve disease" would freeze the status of a disease, preventing you from moving either up or down on the condition track. Naturally it would only be used in extreme cases of highly dangerous diseases or disease-like effects, where conventional magic can't effect a cure.

This is something I'm going to try in my next session. My dm has let me ignite flasks of oil to catch people on fire, and the oil burns for a few rounds. I'm going to put some flasks on the disk, move it to my enemies, and then use a scorching burst to ignite it. Then I'll move the disk around to different enemies and catch them on fire!

Or a nasty curse to place on someone!

Speak With Dead

This has a lot of room for bizzare uses as written.

First, every murdered victim found in enough time could be his or her own witness in court.

Second, since you're asking the corpse, not the soul of a creature, there's never a reason to take hostages or interrogate most foes - just shoot first AND ask questions later! The corpse itself has no beef with you. NOTE: you may need a warlord and a permissive DM, but still...

Third, "Look, if you don't tell me now, I'll just gut you and then question your spineless corpse" makes a pretty good Intimidate check on foes you may not be able to just shoot first.

Fourth, consider the ramifications of historical or archaeological research! "Hey, here's a 4,000 year old mummy. Looks to be in good shape. Bet he could tell us some things about the place."

I could continue - my point is that while this ritual may not have much immediate effect for adventurers, the impact on the game world at-large is insane - espeically mixed with Gentle Repose.
