Brian Blume

Post anything he tells you about the big V.

I can tell you this, in my 2e campaign the party eventually fought Vecna and found out that he got to roll a d30 for saves and to hit rolls.

Eye of Vecna -- not his own??

De nada.

I found it interesting, while rereading the EW materials, that the Eye of Vecna may not have been his own. The cat-like appearance is mentioned in the DMG1, but the hint that it may not have been Vecna's natural eye was dropped.

Well worth considering in your Vecna lore quest....

So having read what was posted on that other board via the link, I have to weigh in on the side of contacting him.

Let us know what happens!

The eye of Rhynn was multifaceted, like the eye of an insect. I'm wondering if the "glitter like the eye of a feline" part of the description is consciously based on that.

I think the Vecna/Kas story is a pretty obvious take-off from Moorcock's Corum and Elric books. If you haven't read them, I'll post more details on why. They're a good read, though--I recommend them.

Looks like I am going to call this guy. Call it peer preasure...

Wish me luck. Don't worry, I will divulge all the Vecna goodness I discover.

I have read the elric series but not the corum.

One thing I would like to point out though-

The betrayal of Kas did not show up until later the nature of the sword sewing dissent appearing in the 1E DMG. It is not mentioned in EW but shows up in the DMG.

So so far we have an eye that is not his own and a sword that he did not make...

Ah. Well, once you read Corum you'll get it.

There's this eye, right? And he takes out his own and sticks this eye into his head and he gets magic powers, see? And then there's this hand, you know? And he cuts his own hand off and sticks this one on and he gets more powers, get it?

No knock against Mr. Blume at all. But definitely it's a Corum thing.

I guess the questions would confirm where the idea came from. But also I think a lot of us want to find out about the nuances that make them different.

I do not doubt you. Seeing what you are saying I think that it did come from Corum.

Aaron.
