Bring back spell memorization times

I started D&D with 3e. I've never played any edition from pre-3e. I am all for less spell slots and slow spell recharge times (potentially a couple days for a fully depleted level 5 character). Again, I am all for slow spell recharge times. As always, play what you like :)

Why do melee dailies break immersion while a caster regains all memorized spells at the start of the adventuring day? Did he have spell books on tape?

Why is it bad for melee characters to replenish their resource (hp) after a long rest and for casters good (spells) when both are equally abstract or absurd.

Vancian casting has 30+ years of tradition. As such, I think "D&D" when I see it.
In the Vancian system, when a wizard casts a spell, the matrix is lost from his memory, and he needs to wait a day to rest and re-memorize the spell. He spends time each day to do so. I can cast 1 fireball, because that is all I memorized the spell matrix for, makes sense to me.

Martial dailies do not have 30 years of tradition.. As such, I do not think "D&D" when I see them. I can trip someone 1 time per day and only 1 time per day doesn't make sense to me.

It's a preference.
