Seddon walks up to the group, glad he is not the last to arrive again. He is replete with treated leather adorned with studs, as well as a light pack, quiver with arrows, bow slung over one shoulder, and a trident that seems to have received a bit of activity.

He squints against the sun and nods to the others in the group, arriving just after Mariana. His head ached, pounding from the consumption of last night's festivities. He hadn't drank much, but he never really drank in excess before, always being under the watchful eye of his father.

Corus walks up last, but still on time. He surveys the assembled group, people he knew for years. Now, arrayed in their weapons, armor and gear, they now longer looked like the fresh faced youth he grew up seeing. Now, they looked like men and women, ready to face the worries and dangers of the world. Corus smiled though, for this was the way of the world, the will of Sarenrae.

"Good Morning to you all." says Corus

"Ugh, good morning, so you say." Mariana breathes in deeply and lets it out slowly. "At least we're all here now."

"Okay then, so now that we are all in attendance, what are we supposed to do before we leave again?"

As if cued by Mariana's question, the bells atop the Temple of Erastil toll their midday song, echoing throughout the quiet town. As the peals begin to fade, the first of the townsfolk make their way into the square, dressed in black, as if attending a funeral. They slowly fill the square, moving quietly across the cold, hard ground, their eyes downcast and mournful. The Silvers, Short Change, Braggar, Father Prasst, Seddon's mother...indeed all of the party's loved ones and mentors are to be seen there, partaking as tradition demands, in the solemn ceremony. Only Holgast the wizard, oddly, is apparently absent. After a few moments, a murmur passes through the crowd as it slowly parts to let Mayor Uptal through. He leads the way with a tarnished silver lantern. Behind him, an old pony drags a cart laden with backpacks and supplies.

Once he reaches the center of the crowd, Mayor Uptal stops and calls out to the assembled townsfolk. “Once again the winter winds blow through the Fangwood, marking the end of another harvest. There are wolves in the woods, howling at our walls, and serpents in our shadows, waiting to strike. Just as it was one hundred and seventy-four years ago, when Kassen himself left these walls to protect us, so it is today. Where are the heroes? Where are the brave folk that will venture out to Kassen’s tomb and retrieve the flame to keep this community safe for another winter?”

The mayor pauses to let the heroes step forth to accept their mission, a traditional part of the ceremony.

Corus steps forward first and accepts the lantern from the mayor.
"I will retrieve the Everflame. For just as Sarenrae's light guides us through the winter to the new birth of spring, so too does the Everflame, a part of her Light, signify the devotion and protection of Light that shall protect us through the winter. I, Corus Varan, Servant of Sarenrae will retrieve the Everflame."

Corus takes a step back from the mayor, and waits silently for the others to step forward.

"I, Anundr Valkrsson, accept this quest, in honor," says the tall Shoanti warrior, stepping forward and nodding at the mayor.

Mariana pauses momentarily, looking to her father and sister in the crowd. Standing a little taller she speaks loudly, "I will retrieve the flame and do my best to keep our home safe."
