Broad Arrow Jack presents Crypt of the Everflame [IC Thread]

And that left Seddon. The shorter man took his step forward to join the four, and with the briefest of smiles to his mother in the crowd, he pushed his shoulders back, "I will retrieve the flame." If someone was hoping for something a little bit more eloquent, they might have ended up a bit disappointed by the simple repeated phrase Seddon uttered, but he seemed prideful nonetheless.

The mayor nods solemnly as each of the heroes, in turn, steps forward to accept the charge. He hands the silver lamp to Corus, saying, "You were the first to step forward, young man. To you, I say then, use this lamp to bring the fire back to Kassen."

With the lamp in good hands, the mayor next proceeds to hand out backpacks from his pony-drawn cart...one to each of the adventurers. Each backpack contains 5 days' worth of trail rations, a small tent, a winter blanket, and a full waterskin. Additionally, Corus' backpack contains a small vial labeled 'light curative potion'; Seddon's contains a box of tinder and three tindertwigs; Anundr's contains 50 feet of hempen rope and a small bottle of local brandy; Mariana's contains a grappling hook; and Elandril's contains three torches and a flint & steel.

Finally, at the bottom of each of the backpacks is a torn fragment of a map.

Having completed the distribution of gear, the mayor once again speaks to the townsfolk. “I present to you the brave heroes who will follow in Kassen’s footsteps to retrieve the Everflame! Some of them may not return, but I say to you that their sacrifice shall not be forgotten. Go, brave heroes, and do not return until you have the eternal fire.” With that, the mayor points to the south, the direction of Kassen’s tomb. The townsfolk begin waving goodbye with cold, solemn looks on most of their faces.

OOC: All, please update your character sheets with the gear presented by the mayor. Also, please note that if you received any duplicate items that you already purchased to start the game, I have no problem with you 'cashing in' said items for full value to avoid the unnecessary duplication.

Anundr slings his pack over one shoulder as he looks at the map fragment. "I hope that your pieces are more useful than mine."

As Elandril recieves his pack, he finds it quite a bit heavier than expected.
"I hope there is no hurry with this mission, I cannot move at full speed with this load." He says with concern.

Corus takes the lantern solemnly, nodding in thanks to the the mayor.

As they all hoist their packs and compare notes, Corus speaks up "It appears I have the fragment with our starting route, south from the town away from the river, and into the forest, a half a day perhaps, but that is the end of my fragment. Perhaps we should put them all together so we all know the way, in case something happens to one us us and their fragment" suggests Corus.

Seddon dons his pack and pulls out his map, as suggested, holding it for Corus to take. "What did he mean about some of us not returning? Might we really die?" He seems equal parts confused and concerned.
