Buffy learns about the source of her power while conflict looms between Spike and Wood.

Thoughts

:)

Another good episode. I quite enjoyed the history lesson regarding The Slayer and the growing confrontation between Spike and Wood. I liked that Willow is still not in control of herself when calling upon big magic and Kennedy got to see a glimpse of that first hand.

But I have to admit, I am getting a bit bored with Buffy's portrayal this season. Maybe bored isn't the right word. One time she's proclaimimg that only she can fight this evil since she is The Slayer, the next minute she's harping on everyone that it is a team effort. A point that Xander actually brings forward. I was a bit turned off by Buffy's rejection of extra power, but then pleasantly surprised to see Buffy admit that she made a mistake in turning it down.

And the endinng - gotta love those Turo-...uhh, Tera Kahn...uhh, UBER-Vamps.

Yep, I've long since had it with Buffy's self important tirades and fits. Its actually making me dislikie the actress as much as the character, which just isn't right.

I was a little disappointed by the Surprise End Revelation (TM Joss Whedon). Is that all the First has? I want new and creative, and Firsty just comes back with more of the same. I mean, yeah, an army of ubervamps is badass and all, but I wanted to see all kinds of bizzaro wierd and unusual demons that would be unleashed, at least.

I was a little ticked at Buffy for turning down the power that was offered to her. If that was indeed the origin of the Slayer power (infused demon power), then she's been using demon power her whole "career" - why so fussy and dainty about a second dose?

Also, my son made a good point when it looked like she was going to absorb the new demon power (whether she wanted to or not): "It looks like Buffy's becoming more and more demonic, just as Spike's becoming more and more human." Oh well, it would have been a cool observation had things played out differently.

I also made some cool brownie points during the episode for my trivial knowledge:

The First (on TV): "T.T.F.N."

My son: "What's T.T.F.N.?"

Buffy (on TV): "T.T.F.N.?"

Me: "'Ta ta for now.' You know where it's from?"

Black potential slayer (on TV): "Ta ta for now."

My son: "Where?"

Me: "Tigger, from Winnie the Pooh."

Potential slayer (on TV): "It's what Tigger used to say right before he left."

Other potential slayer (on TV): "Cloe really loved Winnie the Pooh."

Never thought I'd get "cool points" out of a Winnie the Pooh reference (but hey, I'll take them where I can get them). :)

Yes, but long before Tigger said that in Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day (1968), Julie Newmar uttered those words as Catwoman on Batman. The Internet Movie Database shows Julie's appearences as Catwoman as occurring between 17 March 1966 and 23 February 1967--a full year before Tigger appeared on the big screen. (And I think her use of T.T.F.N. is actually from her first appearance, but I'm not sure.)

Catwoman: T.T.F.N.
Batman: What's that supposed to mean?
Catwoman: Ta ta for now. I'm off to pluck Robin's feathers.

I think the phrase must have been a pop culture fad before Tigger and Catwoman. Tigger is just the most famous character to use the phrase. But Catwoman's the sexiest character to use it. :)

Yay!!! Bad-ass Spike is back with a vengeance!:D
I personally thought it was a pretty good ep. Really loved the shadow storie part--gave me shivers!
And maybe its just me, but those super-vamps at the end kinda reminded me of orcs.

True, but they could very well just be the footsoldiers for a larger army. I would also assume the First is working on other levels and/or locations too.
