Build Help - Insubstantial, Possession, Healing, and Strike ...

Jeff Wilder

First Post
I have a player (PL 9 campaign) who wants his hero to have three main powers (and Strike):

Insubstantial -- Fairly similar to Shadowcat, pretty straightforward.
Strike -- Phase into someone and go solid (Selectively). He'll never be using this and Possession at the same time, so it seems like a good AP candidate.
Possession -- Pretty straightforward again. Possesses by occupying same space as target via Insubstantial.
Healing -- Wants to only be able to do this if Possessing the target.

Being a novice M&M GM, I'm having a little trouble working out the best -- not necessarily most cost-efficient; "best" in terms of sticking to the building rules -- way to do this. Here's what I've suggested:

Powers (PP: 62):
Insubstantial 4 (Affected by magic, Power Feat: Selective), 21 pp
Possession 9 (Extra: Affects Corporeal [+1], Flaw: Limited (failure to possess turns off Insubstantial) [-1]) 27 pp
AP: Strike 9 (Extras: Penetrating [+1], Affects Corporeal [+1]), Power Feat: Mighty), 1 pp
Healing 5 (Drawback: Must Be Possessing Target), 9 pp
Super-Movement 2 (Air Walking), 4 pp.

The Flaw on Possession is actually called "Side-Effect" from Ultimate Power page 105. But the cost probably should be the same (-1 flaw).

Strike would cost 28pp with Mighty. So it is too expensive to be an alt power of Possession as that only costs 27pp. Also to have your Strength damage affect corporeal you have to buy Affects Corporeal for it. That costs 1 per +1 damage.

So you may want to nix the Mighty on strike.

Healing that only works on whomever you are possessing is probably worth a -1 Flaw as it is in line with only working on yourself but instead is only the body you inhabit.

Cool.

Excellent catch.

Another excellent point.
