Building a gestalt pali-bard

Right now, a 15 to Int is set in stone (RP reasons). The rest are 17, 15, 13, 12, and 11. I haven't assigned them, yet.

EDIT: We've already played a couple sessions (before the group gets together) with me as a lvl 1 commoner questing to become a paladin. Along the way I got a magic longsword (pretty nice for level 1). So any weapon feats will probably build on that.

Charisma=17 seems a no brainer --
Dex = 15 will not hurt --
Con=13
St = 12
Wis=11

? Maybe put 15 in con if you really want to tank. Pretty tough distribution.

I'd do:

CHA 17
DEX 15
WIS 13
CON 12
STR 11

Reasoning: STR gear and buffs are a little easier to come by, and the short buff durations don't matter as much as they would buffing WIS. Plus, you don't want to end up with insufficient WIS to cast your Paladin spells. And the bonuses from WIS dovetail nicely with the bardic face skills. Weapon finesse and your ability to self-buff will take away some of the sting from having a low STR. With that array, you could put 1 stat increase in Dex, one in Wis or Int (depending on whether you want 4th level spells or the increased skill points), and 3 in CHA.

Holy crap. I must take Divine Might at 3rd level. I didn't even bother to look in the 3E splats.

In the mean-time, I'm thinking 17 in Cha, 15 in Dex, 13 in Str, 12 in Con and 11 in Wis.

I may switch Dex and Con. Not sure yet. I'm not convinced on the need for high Wis. Can anybody think of a situation where I would be wrong?

I'll go with mithril breastplate as soon as I can afford it (I start with 900 gold; we run high-powered in these parts, a TPK is always just around the corner). Probably longsword only with no shield (need a hand free for somatic components).

Early feats look like this:
1: Weapon focus (longsword), Power Attack, Lingering Song
3: Divine Might

Level 4 increase will go to Cha. I'll get Wis eq as soon as I can (I don't cast until lvl 4).

I'll rely on mage armor for AC, bull's strength for Str, and mirror image to be a nuisance in general, with buffing importance in that order. Greater magic weapon is getting put into use as soon as I get it.

Yeah, now we're kicking butt for goodness.

Getting interesting.

Use a buckler; it allows you to have a hand free for material components (in rounds where you need to cast spell). When not casting spells, it's +1 to ac or +2 (if +1 magic). (when you can afford it, that is).

I'd definately keep wisdom only as high as required to cast your spells. By the time the paladin can cast 2nd level spells you can have your Wisdom up to 13 with a +2 item easily. Wisdom=11 seems fine for 1st level.

What is a gestalt character?
It's an alternate rules set in Unearthed Arcana. You essentially take 2 classes every level, choosing the best aspects of each class.

Paladin spells.

The idea is, by 8th level, when the Paladin starts to get 2nd level spells, he can afford a +2 Wisdom item... That will take him almost to level 14, when he requires a +3 or +4 boost to wisdom for 4th level paladin spells. Again, hardly a strain at that level.

Wisdom=11 allows for 1st level Paladin spells just fine.
