Building a Gypsy

So I built a gypsy type character in a previous pathfinder game. I was wondering would it be possible to do in 3.5 D&D( I am extremely new to D&D 3.5 so forgive me if I missed something blatantly obvious). She was a Oracle base class. with 2 levels into witch (for the hexes and curses) and 2 levels bard for the performance. However I have yet to find the witch or an oracle class for 3.5 so I wonder.. Is this type of Gypsy not really possible (I'm lookingfor a more mystical witchy type of gypsy and not a thieving rogue like gypsy that the actual class builds into?)
I have been researching and web surfing but I was thinking a fresh eyes perspective may be helpful.
Thanks for your time.

Hi carodwen, welcome to the forums.

I'm not sure if you know this, but Gypsies are real people (the term is used to describe the Romani, travellers, and quite a few other groups, and can be considered an ethnic slur). Gypsies as fortune tellers or rogues is a common stereotype both in fiction and in real life, but I think it's best to avoid stereotyping real people.

Could we rephrase your question to say that you're looking for a fortune teller who can curse people? (A master of fortune and misfortune?) The hexblade (Complete Warrior) has a number of hexes per day, but I'm not sure about the fortune telling/prophesying side of things. Could you take levels in wizard and specialise in divination?

Really...

Ok. So since you seemingly took this the wrong way let me educate you just a little bit. I'm a fourth generation Welsh Gypsy (with a lotta witch in there) (even though I now blend into the real world somewhat). I kinda know who and what the gypsies are since You know. I R One. And since I live as a mystical witch, who also reads tarot (you know fortune telling) I want to build a character off of myself. So thanks for the education and assumptions. The only slur I see is someone turning nothing into something for the pc era (And you probably have no business because you probably aren't even one of "us") Thicken that skin up just a little bit bud, your life will be much happier that way if you don't always see racism in everything. This is the rpg world not the real world. Leave that stupid pc, everything is bad mkay, crap there, in the real world.

Have a great day.

Now back to the people who can appreciate creating a character based off of a type of person you want( you know since every fantasy class has a sterotype. pally lawful good cannot tell a lie, barbarian powerful but dim, rogue thieving sneaker) since thats is how things are done in fantasy games, I am still looking for some suggestions on a Gypsy type character that has the MAGICAL ability to curse and hex as well as heal. But I will look for it else where. This site isn't for me.

Thanks for your time and Namaste

If you're still accepting of someone from this board trying to help you out (not all of us will say anything about real life gypsies) then I have some possible suggestions.

In terms of fortune telling the easiest way to go about that would be a Divination specialist wizard. You won't get the ability to use or read tarot cards strictly-speaking, but some divination spells could be refluffed to work like that.

There is the 3.0 class Hexer that can be found in Masters of the Wild. The most straightforward way to enter that prestige class is through the Adept NPC class, but 3.5 added a way to get in via the Archivist class found in Heroes of Horror and finding a way to get the Survival skill as a class skill which can typically be done through a feat or similar. A great guide for that is found here.

There is a witch kinda detailed in the DMG on page 175 that you might be able to work with your DM on using.

The warlock class from Complete Arcane has some debuffs applied through Eldritch Blast or as invocations of its own.

The Hexblade in Complete Warrior has a Curse ability but it's fairly limited. The designer himself gave an unofficial update to it here because WotC recognized that the hexblade was originally pretty weak.

You could probably get by with some bard variants. here is a list I helped pull together of as many of the in-book alternate class features as I could find. Just click on the Bard spoiler and you're bound to find something that appeals to you.
