Now, first off, let me just say that I'm very new to D&D and that I'm still an amateur but I don't intend for that to impede my wills to create (mandatory mad scientist evil laughter)
(I am also scared that there might be another obscure sub-forum that this thread should belong to)
Now, I'm trying to create a vampire clan from scratch (the one that made my PC: Kruor, a Warforged Vampire)
PS: Any articles or sites that I can read which can help me name...stuff, in general on the fly would be tremendously helpful.
The Blood Brothers (copied from Kruor's background, yes all this is merely his background *facepalm*)
The Blood Brothers were a vampire clan that resided on The Red Isle. They had a well defined heirarchy of order, with one goal in mind" to eradicate all lesser vampires, vampires that were not "chosen" to be gifted such sacred talents. Victims that are converted into vampires without the approval of a clan are branded as "rogues" and must be eliminated.
Despite all that, the Blood Brothers still needed to feed. Yet, they could not risk "contaminating" a victim and raising a vampire. The nobles commanded their vampire servants to construct a machine that could do the hunting for them. A servant, Erin, was an Artificer before a vampire, and after much tinkering, managed to make a handful of these machines for the nobles.
Armed with various means of extracting and preserving the blood, the machines would be released whenever the vampires hungered for blood and they would be sent out in packs to hunt the nearby villages and towns. Dubbed the Iron Damned, the new threat showed no mercy: the vampires had no reasons to kill their prey, whereas the new mechanical terrors drained their targets bone-dry. The nearby residents lived in fear, never knowing when the next "hunting season" would begin.
It wasn't long before word reached the ears of various adventuring heroes, and the Blood Brothers were pursued by many. Facing the danger of extinction, they decided to turn their robots into tools of war. The robots were given sentience and the ability to use the blood that they drain as a powerful magical resource. Oddly, the new abilities bestowed upon them also had it's drawbacks: being exposed to sunlight would unravel their metal bodies causing it to rust and decay, various holy symbols would weaken the magical enchantments on their bodies.
Each of them were given names, as new children were. Most embraced the teachings and ways of the vampires, but one such individual was different. Perhaps something had went wrong during the enchanting process, for Kruor Sytis was much less smarter than his machine brethren. Kruor loathed what he was, and ran away from the Blood Brothers when an opportunity presented itself as a new band of adventurers launched an attack on the Red Isle.
The Red Isle
I haven't given the Red Isle much thought, really. I know I want a big, dark, gloomy-ish structure with a nice mansion feel on it
I do know however, that the Red Isle is surrounded by various camps, settlements, towns, etc, while having one or two big towns nearby. This means that the Blood Brothers have an abundant supply of blood. The residents do not bother the Blood Brothers (before the Iron Damned were built) as they rarely killed their victims.
Scarlet Sea (Slaughter event)
Outraged by the surge of feeding victims that were appearing at one time, a smithing town nearby coordinated an assault against the Blood Brothers. With their abundant supply of weapons and armor, a small rag-tag group of volunteers armed themselves to the teeth. Determined to protect their rights for peace and life, they marched into the Red Isle to make their stand. None of them came back. A medical scout ventured into the Red Isle, hoping to at least find some survivors.
Instead, all she saw was a sea of red. In front of the gates of the [X] Manor, were the lifeless mangled bodies of her fellow town residents. There were no cries for help, no screams of mercy. All was still. Horrified, the scout ran back to the town with swift feet. The event of the valiant fighter's fall has come to be known as the Scarlet Sea.
Vampire Artificer (Erin)
Now, I know for sure that this guy has to be brought to life. He's the one who forged the Iron Damned. Should he multi-class or hybrid?
Vampire "Seer"
[sblock=August Profetta]
The security system of the clan. She's not one to go out on the front lines and is a book-ish sort of person, preferring to gain power through study and ancient rituals. I'm now pondering what classes would be good for her to dabble in. I'm not familiar with anything other than Wizards/Mages...
[sblock=Race]I definitely want her to be a changeling, she can show other vampires who (or what) she saw by shifting into them, giving accurate depictions of her visions. (For once, Vampire being a class is helpful)
She'll also take the Int and Cha, of course.
Changeling Disguise
Changeling Trick[/sblock][sblock=Sea Tyrant Oracle Version]Level11 Changeling Vampire|Warlock Hybrid, Sea Tyrant Oracle
Powers
Vampire Slam, Eldritch Blast, Eyes of the Vestige
Blood Drinker, Fortune Binding, Improved Blood Drinker
Vestige of Kaeleth, Unfettered Hunger, Thief of Five Fates (or another Vestige? I like the flavour of this)
Eyes of the Spider Queen, Form of the Bat, Destiny Inversion
Doomsday Portent
Feats
1: Hybrid Talent: Warlock Pact Boon
2: Arcane Vampire
4: Vestige Adept [Retrain to Danger Sense]
6: Ritual Caster
8: Warlock's Sight
10: Alertness (Can't be surprised? Fits her flavor-wise)
11: Eyes in the Back of your Head
[/sblock][sblock=Candidates]Some other possible candidates
-Star Pact Warlock, not optimal as it's less about gazing at the stars and more like blinding people with it...
-Time Bender (Psion Paragon Path), well she'd have to at least be Level11 which I'm not against, you'd have to be pretty powerful to see into the future...but the Time Bender focuses on manipulating time, it also doesn't have the clairvoyant feel. So far, I don't see Psions having any Far Sight sorta things.
-Prescient Bard, I've been trying to make a Hybrid Vampire|Bard but so far not much luck.
-See Tyrant Oracle (Vestige Warlock PP) This just might be my best bet, it has communing with ghosts and the PP path is about being an Oracle[/sblock][/sblock]
Vampire Keeper/Guard/Watchman
He'll have the Divine Vampire feat and keeps watch during the day while keeping wards up and maintaining them most of the time.
Vampire Pixie Spy/Scout
Cloak and dagger, keeps to the shadows, tiny. The perfect spy~
Respectable, powerful vamps
Well, I'm (once again) not too sure who I'll whip up. But I'm sure I'll think of something.
"Frenemy" Clan
A rival/ally clan that aims to free vampire slaves from their masters. They believe in freedom and generally, peace. As such they prefer diplomatic actions but still know when to resort to more direct tactics like assassination, espionage and outright declaration of war (against other vampire clans that support slavery, for instance)
While most of their targets are "chosen" vampires of their clans, there are still "rogues" out there that dabble in vampire slavery. Therefore they can be on either side of the battlefield against or with the Blood Brothers.
[sblock=Previous Ideas]Alternative Blood Brothers (now the current concept)
Well, I've been tinkering with the background abit, and I found it rather lacking in terms of purpose (of the clan, I mean)
And I thought of something much better than "the nobles got lazy" concept.
Instead of that, the clan was formed with an actual well...purpose: to keep the vampire's blood "clean. Think of it like Harry Potter's pure-blood, mud-blood concept. Well, vampires have to come from somewhere right? And those born directly under the creator (or almost directly) would be the "nobles" (note to self: read origins of vampires in D&D lore, hope it does not clash)
Aaaand, in order to prevent "spreading" or "breeding" unpure filthy vampires, the Iron Damned were created so that there can be no physical contact between the vamps and the victims.
The best part about this concept is that now my clan has goals and thus, uh...plans? Ultimately, the Blood Brothers want to eradicate the non-noble vampires. However, there are of course various talented or exceptionally old vampires who are non-noble (I need to coin a term for non-nobles >.<) and may be recruited or just tactically "ignored" out of fear or respect.
I really like the newer concept, so I'll probably re-write Kruor's background (it's a recent epiphany) to change it to this one. But Kruor is still gonna be stupid. I like that.
EDIT: I also now realize that I totally ripped off Lord Voldemort. Cuuuuuuuurses. Back to the drawing board?[/sblock]
WELP, this is all of mah sh*t that I just pulled out of nowhere. I hope someone reads it (and responds, more importantly)
I also hope to build upon this and fine tune things, like fleshing out my characters, more defined clan goals.
(fingers crossed that people won't flame me for this thread >.< *click*)
