Woah, that really is a slow level progression...we made it to 20th level in 71 gaming sessions, using the standard XP progression. Our gaming sessions were about 5 hours long apiece--how long were your sessions?

It took my group 72 sessions to go from 5th level to 20th level using standard XP progression during our Dungeon of the Mad Mage playthrough. I estimated that they explored 75% of the dungeon as well.

Our sessions probably averaged 3-4 hours. However, there were times when I only had 2 or 3 players, which meant they got more XP. They ended up a bit ahead of the curve toward the end.

3.5 to 5 hours. We had 6 players amd most players made every session but a few missed here and there.

XP was earned by monsters killed with a few small bonus xp for other goals achieved. If a charachter died the new charachter started at half the XP of the old charachter which helped slow things down.
