Building off of Spring Attack

the Jester

Legend
One thing I find lacking in 3e is that there aren't very many good high-level feats for fighter-types to choose from. That said, how do these look?

IMPROVED SPRING ATTACK (Fighter)

You can strike more than once when you spring attack.

Prerequisites: Dex 15, base attack +11, Combat Reflexes, Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack

Benefit: When you use the Spring Attack feat, you may take two attacks on the same opponent. Each attack suffers a -2 penalty; the second attack one counts as a second iterative attack (and thus is -5 off the first attack).

Normal: You may only attack once when you spring attack.

SWIFT SPRING ATTACK (Fighter)

You can quickly move in on an enemy, strike them and move away.

Prerequisites: Dex 15, base attack +13, Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack

Benefit: When you use the Spring Attack feat, you may move up to twice your speed in the round. If you choose to move more than your speed, you may not use Improved Spring Attack or Epic Spring Attack.

Normal: When you spring attack, you may move up to your speed during the round.

EPIC SPRING ATTACK (Epic, Fighter)

You may unleash a flurry of blows when you spring attack.

Prerequisites: Dex 17, base attack +21, Combat Reflexes, Dodge, Improved Spring Attack, Mobility, Spring Attack

Benefit: When you use the Spring Attack feat, you may take up to three iterative attacks on the same opponent. Each attack suffers a -2 penalty.

Normal: You may only attack once when you spring attack.

Wow, no feedback yet? :uhoh:

Does this mean everyone thinks these are okay?

In a similar vein, what other kinds of high-level fighter feats are missing? I have long considered adapting some prestige class abilities as feats but I like having some abilities that are restricted to prcs only; Supreme Cleave is a good example of something that falls into both of these categories.

Fishin' for some response...

it occurs to me that feat lines are similar to a PrC
what that means, i dont know
but your feats look fun

i'd like to see an epic feat that grants full iterative attacks with movement between targets
an epic swift spring attack would be cool too

I would say they are good feats, and at a glance reasonably balanced. But I wouldn't trust my ability to balance a brick in cement. :p

It might be better to:
1) have a pair of feats formatted like rapid shot -> manyshot for melee weapons; then
2) have the epic feat adds normal move into a full attack action.

I think all 3 look just fine.

Let me think... In general I think there should be more high-level feats with some prerequisite, but not too "deep" into a chain, I'd prefer to have more branches :)
BTW, I'm trying to toss some ideas here, but the actual example are not balanced at all, it just to gives the idea of what I'm thinking about, ok?

1) Something to build upon Improve Critical with a choice of special effect on the target, like (for instance) being stunned for 1 round (bludgeoning weapons only) or being slowed in movements, or receiving another penalty.

Stunning Critical
Choose one bludgeoning weapon.
Prereq.: Imp.Critical with selected weapon.
Benefit: Whenever you score a critical hit with the selected weapon, the target must make a Fort save (DC equal to 10 + 1/2 your BAB + STR) or be stunned for 1 round.

Hampering Critical
Choose one slashing or piercing weapon.
Prereq.: Imp.Critical with selected weapon.
Benefit: Whenever you score a critical hit with the selected weapon, the target's base speed is reduced to half, until he is healed of at least 1 hp or until he receives a successful heal check (DC 20).

2) Some more feats for archers. I would not be against a feat that allows an archer to "shoot on the defensive" not provoking an AoO, in exchange for a penalty. Could be fun to imply a Concentration check as well (because it would make Concentration useful for non-casters), but that would be too much complicated to make it balanced.

Shoot on the Defensive
Prereq.: Point Blank Shot, Dodge, BAB +6
Benefit: You don't provoke an AoO if making a ranged attack while threatened, but you receive a circumstance penalty of -2 on such attack.

3) Definitely some more charge-related feats, but some care is needed to avoid excessive stacking.

Improved Charge
Prereq.: Str 13+, BAB +6
Benefit: When performing a charge, your bonus to attack is increased to +3.
Normal: +2

Mobile Charge
Prereq.: Dex 13+, BAB +6
Benefit: You can perform a charge as a standard action. If you do so however, the movement portion of such a charge cannot exceed your base speed.

Dire Charge
Prereq.: Great Cleave, Imp.Overrun, BAB +11
Benefit: During a charge, you can attack opponents who are within your melee reach at any time during your movement. You take a -4 penalty to these attacks (and no charge bonus, but you still suffer the -2 to AC), and the total number of attack (including the attack at the end of the charge) is that limited by your BAB. You provoke an AoO normally from these targets when you leave their threatened area.

I'm hip to making more epic feats; there isn't nearly enough cool epic stuff out there imho.

Li Shenron, those are some cool feats. I really like the idea of feats that build off of criticals, too. ;) I do, however, use a 'colorful critical hit' chart... I have several feats that add a lot o' color to the critical hit process. :]

I was also thinking about high-level monster custom feats... maybe that topic deserves its own thread, but shouldn't there be more feats for monsters (such as those presented in books like Libris Mortis, Draconomocon, etc) as well? :]

The problem with those critical feats is they are much more useful for a greatsword than a greataxe. You should put in some of extra benefit for a x3 crit
