Building your own Shadowrun world

Cute but dangerous
I am wondering if anyone has made a new background story for SR, considering that the existing one is so overloaded. There is a lot I don't remember about it, although I am sure I've heard it at least once before. Now, this new edition adds more. It is a turn off for new players around here.

If you've done this, what did you change/leave out/add?

I think you should probably just start if off back in 2053 (or was it 2057) when it first started. Leave out all the meta events that were added later, but take whatever editions version of the Matrix/Comlinks/Magic background changes you use as the "this is how it always worked."

The SR5 Core Rulebook establishes how the world is in 2075. That's all you need. The history is fun, but ultimately unnecessary. Even the inevitable campaign books are not going to require any prior knowledge to be useful.

The metaplot is there, if you take an interest.

My friends and I don't get caught up in the meta plot. It is there if you want to try to absorb all of the stuff going on, but in the end it is what is happening to the characters that matters to the players. To each there own. One of the guys playing likes to read background, the others do not care. The jump from SR4 to SR5 and the changes to the matrix... they don't know enough or care to wonder why there is OS now.

But the info is out there if you want to see it. Otherwise, just reboot or hand wave the history.

Unfortunately, those players would want to know it all. But I suppose starting from the beginning would indeed solve the issue
