Bull Rushing an Invisible Opponent

Howdy.

Last night we were fighting a dwarf that made a 5-ft. step and turned invisible. Because of the game mechanics you know the creatures location (assuming no haste). We attacked the square with 50% miss chance; we did not have to "guess" the square to attack.

The next round, about 20 ft. away, a door opened. The assumption was that the dwarf moved to the door and then opened it. Again, assuming that haste was not in effect, the monk decided to bull rush the probable square. Wackiness ensues. Here is how we ruled it.

  • Bull rushing into an opponent's square (or by an opponent) draws an attack of opportunity. The invisible creature opted not to make an attack (and thereby not ending her spell).
  • Because the creature was invisible, the monk rolled for the attack miss chance and missed.
  • Because he didn't fail his bull rush opposed check, he was not pushed back 5-ft.
  • Because he ended his turn in a square with an opponent, he unexpectedly bumped into her and fell prone (for occupying a square with an opponent).

Was this an acceptable ruling, and would you have done anything differently?

Cheers,
/ds
