Burger me!

It's interesting how much what counts as a classic burger can change depending on location. To me (from the southern US, currently in California) brioche is definitely more a current fad bun than the classic option.

Brioche is more restaurants here. Done well they're the "best" but can be to sweet. As always ymmv.

Doing brioche tonight at home. Its because they last the week vs bakery ones that are stale very fast.

It kind of amazes me when I look how much more expensive eating out in the US vs Canada seems to be (at least in cities). The minimum appears to be CAD to USD direct (so about a 40% markup, since 1 CAD = 0.71 USD). And of course the UK is worse; I just grit my teeth and pretend the prices are in CAD (1 CAD = 0.54 GBP) but even then sometimes it's too much.

I have a standard order that I get at Popeye's that costs me $20 and change, in the Toronto area. On a recent trip to Seattle I got the same thing and it came to US$23. And it was wrong, and took 45 minutes instead of 7-8, but that's a different story. I'm pretty sure that the fast food prices have gone up there rather precipitously, over the last 5 years. Better off getting some good fish & chips for maybe US$12.

They'll be extremely slow, get your order wrong, be out of at least one thing consistently (the last time I was there they told me they were out of chicken), and act like you asking for sauce is the most grievous offense they've ever heard.

Brioche went from something I'd see every now and again here to taking over any restaurant over a certain price point. I don't dislike them but I miss having other options. Pretzel buns did something similar about 10 years ago.

From what little i could overhear they had a couple of no-shows, the senior person who did show was really pissed off, and I got double the chicken and no coleslaw after waiting for something more than 45 minutes. I'd have left, if I hadn't already paid. Thought of leaving even with that consideration.

Like I said, my local is 7-8 minutes for the same order. They sometimes put the chicken on before I'm through the door, because I'm so predictable.

ETA: I have about a third of a shopping bag full of extra hot sauce packets, that I've accumulated over the last year. My Popeye's doesn't skimp. At least not for me.

Very common here now.

We game at event center. Their Angus burger on brioche buns is $6 usd. Not the best burger but at that price point it beats most of them and its pretty good.

We have a private bar and can buy cocktails and 2 litre jugs of beer playing D&D. Cheap fod and you can do axe throwing, mini golf, laser tag and various other games later.

No lie, I had the best burger and best fries of my life at a restaurant in Portugal, of all places, just this past summer. It was the rooftop lounge at the Rebello hotel in Porto, and I cannot recommend them emphatically enough. All the food was incredible, as were the fancy cocktails. But that burger was incredible.
