Burning Wheel Subscription model?

Luke Crane over at the Burning Wheel forums seems to feel the printed book model is dead. He has put up a short poll asking people what they would be will ing to pay for continued BWG support (lifepaths and such).

This got me wondering. Can such a game with such a small print run as Burning Wheel survive on a subscription service? A few caveats... I don't know ANYTHING about the numbers of books sold and Luke seems impossibly reticent about selling pdf copies of his games.

no idea. it is interesting. I agree with him somewhat about books but I'd think that his product was precisely the kind of product that would have stayed in physical form. All big RPGs being in that category in my mind.
